Beretta CX4 storm 9mm Ballistics

magazines

A little off topic. I have a 9mm on order from epps.

Quick question for the knowledgeable folks out there:

I was hoping to get 10 rnd pistol mags since I am assuming anything stamped CX4 would need to be 5 rnd. Which pistol mags are compatible with the CX4 without having to use a magwell adapter etc.

cheers,
b

mags

the storm that i had only had a mag issue with some of the mags i put throught it. the mags are compatible with the 92 and pro mag makes good ones for it. I bought most of them off of ebay and some from gunbroker.com they were for the 20 rounders that i pinned to 10 rounds for my 92 fs

The CX4 that I had used the same mag as the Beretta 92 pistol. But some of the new CX4's that are showing up are set up to use the PX4 pistol mag, so double check before you run out and buy a bunch of 92 mags.

I thought about HS6 too but switched to 357SIG before I could do any real load development for storm in 9mm. Factory 147 grain bullets were flying at 1250fps, those were the only ones I measured. All other loads were flying ~400fps faster than published numbers for pistol length barrels. So, if you see a load for 9mm Luger saying such and such load gives you 1100 fps - that will materialise into 1500fps from 18.5" barrel. Not all slower burning powders burn well in such small case as 9mm Luger. H110 that I had high hopes for will not burn if compressed tight and topped with light bullet. My understanding is that slow powders need some critical mass and pressure to generate enough heat to speed up burn rate. You may get "pshshshs" instead of "boom".

I basically had only Universal to play with and it was giving me 1650fps with 90 grain bullets and 6 grains of powder. 7 grains were giving me 1950fps but that was out of 357sig case. I know you can stuff this much into 9mm Luger case but pressures will be very high. I stopped at 6.5 grain of Universal as cases were badly beat up and primers cratered - not very safe. it was somewhere above 1750fps.
