Beretta CX4 Storm - Barrel change to non-restricted

Hi, I've tried doing some searching and found a few 'close' matches. But nothing definitive on the subject. I think I'm correct that the CX4's can be made non-restricted with a longer barrel / new papework?

So far in my searching online, I found the answer to be 'YES' but thats it.. Does anyone have more information about the process?

Talk to Barry at Bits o pieces in B.C. He does these conversions and yes with a longer barrel it becomes non-restricted. Do you have one or are you looking for one? I have a CX-4 Storm for sale!!

Hi Scott, I'm enolled in the CFSC/CRFSC for next weekend. I'm planning the CX4 as the first firearm once all the paperwork goes through -- just wanted to find more information about the conversion. hopefully by mid-october the license is in hand, I'll try sending you a PM just incase it hasn't sold. When you use the search function, the default is for one week. Change that to longer and you'll find a bunch already on the non restricted "CX4 Storm". Try variations such as "CX4" or "Storm" in the search engine. Start with threads then search for posts to find stuff in other threads.

Also I'd recommend the bull barrel if you do get the conversion. It looks good, shoots well and still balances nicely. It'll cost you about $550 for the whole thing to be re-registered and installed.

As for optics. Holo dots work well. However the Eotech doesn't fit since it's too wide and interferes with the charging handle. Aimpoint micro, Burris Fastfire II, Bushnell Holodot (same innards as Eotech just without the protective hood), and the M21 from the Tavor with the bullseye reticle should all work well.

Good luck. They are a lot of fun and fairly inexpensive to shoot. Oh and the non restricted ones with the bull barrels by bits n pieces seem to like 147 grain 9mm.
 
Epps had these converted models (bull barrel) on sale right off the rack at one time. I got mine there...it was the same as purchasing any other non-restricted. This might be less hassle than buying a restricted and then re-registering it?

For the hassles, and paperwork involved, do the smart thing and have one of the dealers mentioned do the swap, and paperwork, for you.

The barrels require a special tool to remove and are quite a hassle. Go through Barry at Bits Of Pieces in Delta, BC like the others suggested. He'll add the bull barrel, and then re-register it (officially verified) as non-restricted. He does a great job. It's around $550 incl. taxes.
 
Thanks for the replies. That answered my question, My main worry was how you handle paperwork and all that. I think in this case i'll just leave it to the dealer.

Also, Epoxy7 was right, I hadn't adjusted the search feature and in the future i'll make sure im searching more then 7 days before posting I can't find anything!
 
Not really a job you can do yourself. I had a 9mm cx4 and I loved it...but sold it because converting it was just too expensive. It adds another 500 bucks, and if I wanted a restricted carbine I have my AR. Now when the nonrestricted JR carbine comes out that takes 1911 mags in .45 I may be selling my AR...
 
The "paperwork" is pretty easy... just call it in and tell them the new length.

The barrel does require an extremely deep socket (12+inches) in order to swap barrels.

Definitely fun toy non-restricted, but, don't envision a 100m sniper rifle, it's still just a big hangun; 50m targets though no problem with precision :)
