I just received an M1 Garand Beretta receiver and the heel stampings are very light. It's covered in dried old grease, so I don't think that it was refinished. All of my Breda receivers are very deeply marked, so I was just wondering if this is normal for Beretta marked receivers?

I've noticed that some of my PBs are stamped somewhat lighter than my BMRs. Sandblasting before reparkerizing will erode markings to a varying extent.

At some point in the 5000 range Breda started making receivers on contract for Beretta. These can be ID'd by BMR stamped in the drawing number on the right side of the receiver while the s/n has the PB prefix.

Both firms made Garands in large numbers for the Italian Army in addition to producing rifles for the Danish contract. Both makes are of equal quality.

I just took delivery of 2 more Beretta receivers, one a late 5000 and the other in the 3000 range. The 3000 is definitely a Beretta made one with "PB" in the drawing number and a comparatively light stamping in the heel. The 5000 is a Breda made one with "BMR" in the drawing number, typical Breda machining marks in the heel area and deeper stampings on the heel with the letter/number font the same as those on the Breda marked receivers.
