I just got a second hand beretta 92-a1.

Everytime I load a loaded mag into the gun and remove it, the first round has scratches in the center of the brass, where the brass touched the gun.

And

When I chamber a round and eject it, there is a long gash on the brass and the bottom rim is damaged to.

Is there any fixes to this? Or do I have to get it looked at by a gun smith.

EDIT: if you cycle a round through the gun about 4 times, It completely destroys the brass. The bottom lip of the brass, aslo gets in gashes in it.

Take the slide off and insert the mag and see if it is hitting anything on the inside of the frame. If not, then examine the slide and see if anything looks damaged or bent. It's pretty difficult to tell without seeing the gun.

How many round in the mag ? 10 - 11 ?

If the mag is over load or the sring is pushing to hard , the first round can be scrach by the slide.
Start with 9 round in the mag, until you can easy feed 10 round.

Doesn't look like a problem to me.

I initially read this thinking I was screwed as I have a 92A1 coming to me as we speak. I also reload so......

Looking at your pics though, I don't see any issues. A little scratch on the brass is no big deal.

If you cycles a round through the gun around 4 times, the brass if FUBAR. The bottom lip off the brass also get gashes in it.

Scratches on brass hardly mean it's fubar, but I am not likely to pick up my same Brass more than a couple times anyhow.

I guess I just really don't see too much wrong with the brass. The scratch doesn't look that deep and the messed up rim on the cartridge is not that big a deal as it isn't likely the extractor will hit the same spot twice.

You should see what my former Norc did to .45 acp brass. That was if you could even find them!

I'm sorry, the pic was after chambering the round once. After 4 times, I would say fubar.

I don't reload brass, but I do collect to give to my buddies who do, and I would think, the brass is unreloadable.

But, I am not a reloader. And I know very little about it, I am just assuming the brass will be unuseable.

Thanks,

Factory mags? happens with 1 mag only or both/all any unusually sharp edges?

First I would chamber load the round and with a magazine removed cycle the slide and see if the case looks ok.

if it does, load 2 or more rounds in the mag and see if it's happening with an empty mag only or with a mag with ammo in it as well.

You could also paint the case with a black marker and cycle it, than look where the scraped marker residue is on the gun/mag. Or put a marker dot (for reference) on a case and chamber the ammo so the dot is on the top, that would give you a better idea what is scratching the round.

95% chance one side of the mag lip is sharp (inside)

Load a mag and with a black marker, put a mark next to the mag lip on the brass
Both sides
and in a safe place load that round and then eject it
look at brass and scratch should be next to the black mark
