So it has come time for me to obtain a new shotgun. After alot of looking and asking questions holding/fondling different models I have decided on a Beretta. Problem is which model. extrema 2 in camo or A400. At this point I am leaning more towards the A400. Trigger guard/ safety better made ect.

The biggest question I have is about the kick off system. I read that it reduces recoil but my issue with that is when I was looking at a couple different models they were able to push in really easy. IE less than 10 lbs of presser. So I wanted to know from someone who has shot one to how much it reduces recoil or is it a waste of money. My thought is that because it was so easy to push that it would only delay the recoil?

I have been shooting 3.5" 12g for the past 6 years and I don't find that they are that bad. Thoughts? experiences? Thanks

kick-off

good, effective system. Does what its supposed to do, reduces felt recoil. Not sure about longevity though, only owned the guns for under a year and then sold them off, but not because of the kick-off system, just interested in shooting other shotguns is all.

I never even though about longevity. Good thought or question.

I like the A400 better than the Xtrema but both are good guns. The A400 handles better IMO.

I've shot the A400 with the kick-off although only with heavy target loads. It didn't seem to reduce recoil that much compared to the Beretta 391 I was also shooting at the time. But I'll confess to bias against any of the stock recoil reducers (PFS, Gracoil, etc.) because they can make the gun butt heavy and I don't like the sliding motion of the gun under recoil.

If the 3.5" shells don't bother you, particularly if you are shooting a pump gun, then the gas-operated A400 will have less felt recoil even without the kick-off. The good news is that you can buy the kick-off separately if necessary. If it were me I'd get a synthetic stocked A400 without the kick-off. If the recoil because bothersome then I'd consider acquiring the kick-off afterwards.

I shoot an extrema2 and love it, kick off system is way better than the benelli recoil system. I have ordered a new A400 extreme and should get it in a week or so, this guns kick off is differend than the extrema2 and regular a400. I will post my thoughts after I test drive it.

I have a A400 with the kickoff -- the thing I Like about it is that it handles even low pressure loads well. I've shot hand loads loaded down to 1000fps 7/8 oz loads with no issues -- thing is, I don't notice much difference in perceived recoil between the light loads and 3.5's in the 1500fps range -- gotta love it. That being said, I've never shot another gun with the kickoff system so it may be possible that the A400 design might be a factor.

Well I broke down and bought one yesterday. I got a stupid good deal on it. I bought it at a bigger store in Gp. When I was looking at it I told them I would take it. They went looking in the back and couldn't find the other one so I got the display model. There was another dealer that had the a400 listed for 1799.99 so I asked them to price match. They did. And because it was the display model they gave me 10% more off the gun.

30 minutes after I bought the gun I was out with it pounding some ducks and geese. From using my old shot gun to my new one I did notice a difference between them. The old one did kick more with the 3.5" shell. It really was like shooting a 20g. I have yet to try any light loads in the gun and I will soon.

Good deal. I love my A400, it is my go to shotgun now. The only reason I would by something else is because I love guns and can't own enough. I found the kickoff tobe effective as compared to other semiautos with similar loads.
