Looking to get one of these. These are the exact issued M9's complete with proof/inspector markings.
This was produced I think some time in the late 90's and 5,000 or 10,000 out there has been produced. They said that this was taken from beretta's M9 production and was sold to civilians, only the range of the s/n will identify that.

The difference with the commercial M9's out there is the military markings it has and the only plastic part on this pistol is the grip. Everything is metal and no polymer in its internals.

Looking to hear about this and hope anyone who has this posts here.

I did a bit of research, and here's what I found on irunguns.com, who has the civilian M9 available for sale :

The commercial M9 pistol is the closest replica to the military M9 that a civilian may legally own. What sets it apart from the 92FS is: Distinctive military style markings: on various components closely replicate those of the U. S. Armed Forces M9 pistols. Unique M9-prefixed serial number: (M9-######) sets this configuration apart from the other 92 series pistols. Dot-and-Post sight system: clones that of the M9.

So it seems it would be illegal to own an actual military-issue M9? My guess is that there is only one version of the M9 available for civilians, and although it was built to closely replicate the mil-spec one, its not quite the same. If I was you, I'd dig a little deeper on this pistol, because it may not have the military authenticity you're looking for after all.

I don't think what IRG has is the same as the special edition M9. I'm pretty sure it does not have those GI markings on the slide, trigger guard and side of hammer. Owning them is legal.

I own a commercial M9 ....I've noticed on pics of military M9's on the right side of slide after ASSY 98345983 its stamped "PM" ...my commercial M9 lacks this marking. What is PM stand for? Proof Mark?

I've owned Beretta pistols as soon as I had my rpal at age 19, and I'm in love with then. Even when I was a little kid playing Cops&Robbers with my friends, I was packing a full-size, black, Beretta 9mm lol :) and fell in love even since.

My first real Beretta, was an original, blued Pietro Beretta model 92F 9 Parabellum. Then a POS Beretta 92FS with curved dust cover ruining the classic Beretta lines, sold asap....then a beautiful stainless .40 Beretta 96FS USA .40 Inox.....then my latest Beretta, a gorgeous Beretta M9 U.S. combat sidearm which I Love....it's BFF's with my Colt Government Model 0 -01991 .45 Auto sporting Colt gold medallion checkered wood grips....a ###y pair they make together.

Beretta M9 is a staple in the 9mm Luger cartridge....just like a Glock 17 ;)

Is it PM or MP? MP would mean it was magnafluxed which would make sense....
Edit...you were right....they used PM for the proofmark....no imagination LOL

I think PM stands for Proof Mark. I'm really on the hunt for one. This is the sidearm that's missing my collection of US military sidearm issues of Colts and Sigs.

Here are the markings from the special edition M9s which are similar on USGI M9s:

I just watched The Wolverine and there were 92FS. Now I'm really getting caught by this m9 bug...

Keep an eye on the US gunboards, I believe these (the special edition guns) were actually production M9 pistols, that's why they were limited release, possibly a production over run or cancellation (due to the time they were released). Pre-911 there were all sorts of cutbacks happening in the US military.

Looking out for one. It's a collectible that's not priced that high, maybe only for now. As 10,000 of these pistols were made, they really pop up in those forums and auctions from time to time.

Finally found one. It's the limited edition 1 of 5,000 run of Beretta's 475th anniversary.
Going to look for some USGI slide and mags to make it as close to the contract M9s as possible.

Here's the transition...

I don't know what the difference is between military and commercial - just markings? Guess I need to be a collector to get understand. I thought the railed 92A1 was suppose to be the civilian M9... I have it, like the look and feel, but have yet to shoot it.

I found an used M9 with the original box etc. not knowing much about M9's I bought it at a decent price and took it home. Reading through the booklets that came with it I discovered to my horror that it that it is a "replica" of the USGI gun that I thought that I was getting. This particular "replica" was made in tribute to 20 years of service by the U.S. Armed Forces. After a couple of range trips I feel that it is well worth the price and it is a good gun in it's own right even if it isn't The Real Deal.

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the M9 and the Beretta 92 series the same gun?

Sorry for the ignorant question, but what am I missing here?

From what I understand the differences are minor, the markings and sights being the most significant. The Military being kind of cheap could only afford one dot on the rear sight so it is one dot over the other.
