I recently purchased a Beretta minx in .22 short on EE. Got it to the range and had the scariest malfunction yet. First round, I pulled the slide back and let it go to chamber a round and boom! Luckily, and of course, it was pointed down range, but I definitely didn't expect that first shot.

After that I tried shooting it again a few mags. I had a couple of times where it went full auto for two or three bursts. I checked the brass, didn't look unusual.

Now I'm kind of apprehensive to shoot it. It's such a tiny gun I'm concerned a burst could make it uncontrollable. It seems to be some sort of slamfire or hammer follow. Anyone have any suggestions as to the cause and what steps I can take myself to identify and fix it? Any good instructions, web pages or YouTube vid's to help working on it? Thanks in advance.

Unrelated, just minutes before, there was a guy with his two little girls teaching them how to shoot just a couple meters away. I was already sketching about that, because he yelled at one of them for stepping onto the range while it was hot. I was glad they just left, in case it was something worse, I didn't know if it discharged out of battery or not. I felt something hit my finger hard and thought maybe I was hit. Turns out it was probably just the ejected case that hit my finger.

Have you given it a thorough cleaning and once over before heading to the range?
Don't have experience with it but it sounds to me like something is stuck (full of gunk?) or broken inside.

Possibly full of gunk or the spring that counters the striker (prevents forward movement of the striker on slide going forward) is broken or missing. Contact the previous owner and/or take it to a certified gunsmith.

Could possibly be the sear pin. Last time I was at the range the guy next to me kept getting slam fires like you are describing. The range gunsmith figured it out in about 30 seconds. I would take it to a smith to have a look at it. It's likely a easy fix.

I'd definitely get in contact with the previous owner man, I'd be pretty sour if I was sold a malfunction firearm without first being informed of it. And then take it to a gunsmith to get it sorted out, preferably on the previous owners dime.

Ya, it's a really old firearm I got for a decent price. In the ad it said he only had fired 20 rounds. The reason I purchased this one was because I bought a different one before with a nicer finish, but the chamber is too tight and will not even chamber a round. Haven't had any luck with these. However neither posted anything about flawless or good running condition.

I'm not too happy about it but I had someone really rip me off prior to this on the EE, then left him negative feedback. Then he turned around and left me negative feedback for no reason. Contacted the mods with all our convo's as evidence. The mods did diddly squat.. No justice on here anyways. I don't expect the sellers would help. In that case I atleast got the mods to delete my negative feedback, as well as the scammer's... Buyer beware on the EE.

I got curious and did some digging. Apparently the disassembly and cleaning is the same as the .25acp version ( Jetfire ) and I found a few videos on YouTube that could come in handy. Also found this that might help: https://www.bevfitchett.us/firearms-assembly/info-upz.html

First thing I'd do ( and its already been said ) is give it a good cleaning. Quite forget to let usoften, a good bath will reveal any flaws. Cleaning with the parts diagram Should help to reveal if anything is missing. Good luck with the new pistol and don't forget to let us know what you find out!
