Hello All;

I "tried on" a Beretta Model 89 .22 today and thought it felt great. I've done some research and the gun seems to get good reviews, but I respect the opinions of this group. I'd like your thoughts on accuracy, reliability, teardown ease, are they picky about ammo etc.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I have a friend who has been shooting a Beretta 89 for about 20 years. He has had no problems, the gun is not ammo sensitive & is easy to field strip & clean.

It's a well made reliable handgun & compares favourably with the S&W model 41.

That said, if I had to choose between the two I would have to go with the S&W model 41.:)

I have one, haven't had a chance to shoot it much, but feels much more substantial than the buckmarks or rugers. I have shot the S&W 41 & High Standards a bit at the range, and liked them, but haven't regretted the purchase in the least. They seem to be held in higher regard in the US, and are worth a bit more there from what I have found. You could check out the following threads to see what I have found out (delete the spaces).

I was at the range earlier today with my Beretta 89.
A good adjustable target pistol. Cheap on ammo.
For some reason....it does not like Winchester ammo.

My 89 has large grips and that's fine for me..but,
finding grips for medium or smaller hands....very hard.

For me.......it's a keeper.

I've owned one for about 18 years.

At 25 yards, my best 8 round group is 0.683in, holding it with two hands. Not at all unusual to shoot under an inch at that distance. It loves Dynapoints, and that's what gave me the 0.683in group.

Mine has left-handed grips, which I purchased after-market. Outrageously expensive.

Overall, I love it. Very reliable, but needs a thorough cleaning every 400 rounds or so. The finish has chipped quite a bit around the ejection port, and that started within a few thousand rounds being fired. It's got 42,600 rounds through it to date.

Thanks very much for the input. I think I may pick the pistol up. It also comes with a large grip, as mentioned above, but it fit my hand very nicely. Much better than some of the other pistols I tried with smaller grips.

have a great day
