Ok, so I have a Beretta Silver pigeon (for sale - see EE) and I have been asked if it is a 686 or 687.....and I dont know.....so how can I tell what the model number is?

There is nothing in the manual to indicate and it is not listed on the registration. It just says "Silver Pigeon" under the action release lever

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Marty

Beretta 687 series shotguns differ from the 686 in the deep engraved game scenes.
Also, from the one picture I have seen the wood is generally a lot more detailed, deep dark grain, more detailed engraving... these prices reflect the differences if not they are out dated.
BER# GA. BARREL DESCRIPTION PRICE

J687115C 12 28" 687 SILVER PIGEON C $2,925.00
J687136C 20 28" 687 SILVER PIGEON C $2,925.00

J687115 12 28" 687 SILVER PIGEON II $3,150.00
J687135 20 26" 687 SILVER PIGEON II $3,150.00

J687375 12 28" 687 SILVER PIGEON III $3,725.00

J6871A8 12 28" 687 SILVER PIGEON IV $3,725.00
J6871B8 20 28" 687 SILVER PIGEON IV $3,725.00

J6871N8 12 28" 687 SILVER PIGEON V $3,950.00

These prices seem way off base compared to WSP, where the 687 Series start at a shade under $3000.00 and run over $8000.00.

If you go to the Beretta USA website, you will notice under long guns that they have
Field guns, Competition Guns and Premium Guns and in my quick look the 687 are only listed under Competition Guns.

What does the original bill of sale say ?
Sorry , can not be of more help if I have been at all.
Rob

Judging somewhat by the image of the firearm in question.....it is a 686 SP.

Moreover, the ABS case for the 687 is a bit more compact/different. However, I've found that 686 SPs (at least the sub-gauges) are packaged in such compact cases as well.
