Was looking at Beretta shotguns on the weekend for the very first time. I am considering purchase of a competition grade skeet gun - 682 - 686 - 687???
Aside from the obvious... ie wood grade, engraving and other purely cosmetic items, could anyone explain the mechanical differences between the different models??? (if there are any)

Thx
Don

The action is the same in all the models mentioned except that in older pre-Gold model 682s the action was thicker and heavier.

The 682 also has replaceable barrel shoulders (the part where the barrel meets the top of the action.) This is of dubious benefit because I have never heard or read of anyone replacing the barrel shoulders on a Beretta. All of the Beretta competition guns now come with the Optima bore barrels while they are using the older Mobile Choke system in their field guns. Rib configurations may vary within certain models and some may have ventilated side ribs.

All of this applies to new or current guns. Older competition guns might have thicker frames, Mobile chokes, different finishes but the basic action is the same in all of them.

Hope this helps. In my experience trying to keep track of the various and ever changing options, configurations, etc. on Beretta o/u shotguns is more frustrating that trying to figure out Italian politics.
