Hi,

Just wondering what you guys know about the 412 single shot? Handling, feel, etc. Looking at picking one up to partner up with my FN sa22 as a upland/ small game pal.

I have one in .410. It is well built and lives up to the Beretta standard of fit and finish and is reliable. It is very butt end heavy, however, and that makes it whippy and quite difficult to wingshoot with. While I imagine that larger gauges would mitigate the whippiness somewhat I think that a Cooey or Winchester single shot handles a lot better. Of course you lose the fold up capability of the Beretta (and the fit and finish) but if wing shooting is the goal you might want to handle one first before taking the plunge. If you just want to swat grouse on the ground or pluck one out of a tree branch then the 412 will work just fine. If I was going to buy another one it would be a 12 or at least a 20 gauge. They definitely are the nicest of the folding guns.

Thanks for the reply sharp.

I was looking at the ones at tradex (I'm leaning on the 16 just because I have never owned a 16). I like the idea of a folding single since it has a nice symmetry to the take down 22. I'm thinking of wingshooting with it as I can use any gun to swat them off the ground. Unfortunately I cannot handle one in person since it's in another province.

Hmmm... decisions....

If it is a trap version, it is quite a nice gun. When I used to shoot competative trap I remember being beat in a shoot off more than once by friend who used to shoot one.
Just didn't have much respect for my higher priced trap gun. I know where there is a couple, still going strong. I think they are too light for lots of shooting recoil wise, but built simple and built to last.
