for those who wanted to know here is some update on this project. I just fired it a few times after receiving new 7.62x25 barrel from Barry. Although it took a while, barrel is made to my specs and installation was a breeze. Magazine and trigger linkage modifications were done months ago. Pictures are crappy because I am back to using my cellphone as a camera.

here is how it looks like, nothing special from outside, just another Beretta Storm

Test firing went ok, no problems whatsoever except for a slight feeding issue. Tokarev grip angle is diferent and therefore ammo is sitting with slight nose down angle and does get caught on a shoulder of bottleneck chamber. You can see it on this picture

I am thinking about adopting some double-stack magazine made for 38 super with rake angle close to beretta's. If anyone can make a suggestion it will be highly appreciated.

Chronograph tests show surplus ammo flying at 1950-2040 fps with average being around 2000 fps. Accuracy acceptable considering Storm's crappy iron sights. My ammo is 2150 fps on average, fluctuating from 1120fps to 1180 fps although accuracy is a bit worse that factory surplus.

If anybody knows of a good (or any) source of 85-88 grain bullets in 7.62mm diameter please let me know because I am running out of stock.

without any regards to make - what off-the-shelf double-stack pistol magazine may hold 7.62x25 round? I load them with light bullets seated to 1.28" OAL, should fit into 38 Super magazine, I just need the one that has similar rake angle. Suggestions please.

Answering Urbaneddy question - yes it is non-restricted length although hasn't gone through re-classification paces yet.

Probably the best bet for a double stack .38 super mag that's not too wide to fit the mag well would be a Caspian.

You should definetly get it reclassified. Geez, you might have a new career on your hands(I want one:D).

Answering questions

I went with 7.62x25 because I didn't like performance of 9mm Storm and I wanted to make at a least marginal deer rifle out of it. And 9mm Luger may only be converted to a very few other calibers without changing bolt or at least modifying bolt face and extractor.

Career - not likely. It is not a very straightforward conversion, too much work.

Where do I shoot it - this time it just happened to be on Saltspring Island.

Did I chrono it - yes, I mentioned earlier, surplus ammo spits bullets at roughly 2000 fps and my loads are at 2150 fps.

Canuck223 - thanx for a suggestion.

That is a very cool rig. Love the idea of converting to shoot cheap surplus. Then you also get some nice velocity for some longer distance fun.

What are the odds you want to use 100 and 110gr bullets? I am surprised to not see anything lighter at my dist. Lots of M1 Carbine proj.

EDIT: Looked under HG bullets and there are a number of lighter 308 options. PM for info.

I had my 9mm Storm re-barreled non-restricted prior to transfer to me (finished the CFRSC, just no time to get my references again), gun looks AWESOME, helluva fun in the woods to plink around.
