BERETTA TEASES NEW 694 COMPETITION O/U SHOTGUN

Following in the footsteps of the Italian company’s 680 and 690 series shotguns is the new Beretta 694, featuring a host of new features to appeal to competitive shooters.

Designed in conjunction with the Beretta Shooting Team, the 694 is a dedicated over and under made to dust clays and win medals. Featuring a new receiver design as well as new ergos on the pistol grip, the double 12 also has a redesigned steel forend with an adjustable lower profile opening lever. The trigger group has a three-position adjustable trigger while the action includes a new extraction system. Standard features inherited from Beretta’s legacy shotgun line are Steelium Plus barrels with Optima High-Performance chokes.

I've had several 682's and a 692 and I have to say that I see nothing in the 694 that is better, at least on the outside. So they've changed the fore end latch (not sure why), got rid of the rubber coated opening lever (that's good), got rid of the schnable fore end (that's also good), they appear to have reshaped the stock a bit ( I see no improvement there), and changed the design on the side of the receiver, (yawn.......)
I think that the 692 was a very good design apart from the selectable ejectors/extractors and I loved mine. The receiver was beefed up a bit from the 682 (Gold E) and I saw very few issues with those. In fact I know of several 682's that have run hundreds of thousands of rounds problem free apart from getting a rebuild once in a while which is done cheaply enough. I had no problems with my 692 whatsoever but I heard of some guys who had ejector problems and stocks splitting but I know of no one who experienced these problems first hand... not saying there wasn't any though. I did tend to clean and lube my ejectors quite frequently, not sure if that was the secret or not... and I never used them in extractor mode.
I guess the 694 is supposed to replace the 692 which got a bad reputation in some area's but it will have to prove itself.

690/692 selectable ejectors I think have been removed on all models. It was the MIM cam that broke. Has nothing to do with cleaning. Just a bad part. If it was replicated using machined cams it wouldn’t have been a problem and a nice feature. Beretta replaced mine for free. I’ll probably have to replace them again in another 20-30k rounds.

The other issue is the tensioned handguard. I think people make minor issues into massive issues online. If you maintain this (check for tightness), you’ll have no issues.

The 694 makes me yawn, knowing it’s very probable the same 682 internals. It’s just a makeup model change.

If the SL3 target model becomes available to the public it has features that most people won’t spend the money to get. Companies do a decent job keeping the price in line and offer upgrades that can still be considered affordable.
