Beretta Unveils the New Tikka Tactical Bolt Gun

Posted By: Matthew Cox January 18, 2017

Beretta unveiled the new Tikka T3X TAC A1 tactical bolt-action rifle at SHOT Show 2017.

“It’s the game-changer,” said Philip Jones, rifle product manager at Beretta USA. “As far as precision rifles go, we think this is really going to set a very high and new bar.”

The TAC A1 features a “very smooth, very dependable” Tikka bolt action and a two-stage trigger that can be adjusted to between 2-4 pounds, Jones said.

“One of the things that is obviously very important with this rifle is durability,” he said. “If you look at the AR-compatible stock on this gun, it is a machined- aluminum piece with a steel hinge.”

The folding stock has a monopod mount, height-adjustable buttplate, a cheek piece that can be adjusted for both height and angle. There are spacers included in the box so the length of pull can be increased by .75 inches, Jones said.

“It is AR compatible, so if someone wants to remove it and fit their own AR stock on it that is certainly a possibility with this rifle,” Jones said.

The TAC A1 uses a proprietary 10-round steel magazine. The buyer will get three with the rifle, two in the box and one more once it’s registered with Beretta, Jones said.

It has a Sako-made, hammer-forged Tikka barrel and a full-length Picatinny rail along the top of the handguard as well as MLOK attachment points. A removable muzzle compensator is also included.

The TAC A1 is available in .308 Winchester with either 16-inch or 20-inch barrel lengths, .260 Remington with either 20-inch or 24-inch barrel lengths and 6.5mm Creedmoor with a 24-inch barrel.

It retails for 1,899.

I call fail on non ACIS mags, everything up to that point sounded good.

I think that depends on the price of the mags. My TRG mags are great and the only real downside of them is the price (which lets be honest is what these are). If 3 come with the gun that is really all one one need for awhile.

True on the 3 mags I guess, I just like it when you can get an available mag at several places that fit, I also like Pmags for what .308 load I shoot, but like you said you get 3 with and as long as they aren't junk would be alright I'd just prefer to see a standard magazine on it.

Haha, you are very right too though. I have 3 guns and each one takes a different magazine...

Thinking about it now makes me have a sad.

Retail $1900 USD = 2530 CAD.

You can buy regular Tikka and any chassis, on the market for that money - MDT will be cheaper, CADEX would be better quality. You also will have AI mags not "cheaper than real TGR but still golden" magazines.

If you multiply all that on limited if any availability of Tikka fancy models, it is very unlikely to be a success. Just another pretty thing in a catalog.

Interesting. Depending on where they price this would be a solid rival to the ruger precision rifle.

I doubt this will worry the likes of accuracy international, or sakos own trg m10, pgw etc

They are just jumping on the band wagon started by ruger with the RPR and the savage whatever the heck they called it... factory built precision/tactical rifles are the it thing right now.

I disagree. Tikka has an excellent reputation for accuracy and if independent reviews hold that up and the chassis is proven to be a quality build, it could be a worry to the those. Put it this way, I'm planning on a custom build in 6mm or 6.5mm (BR, Creedmoor, .260 Rem, undecided). That or one of the above vendors would cost me $4000-5000 minimum. If the Tikka turns out to be nearly as good, I may very well buy that instead and put the savings toward a better optic than I was planning. Win win.

The Shot Show rep said that extra mags above the 3 you get with the rifle are $95.00 USD each .

It's too bad they didn't hang the "set" trigger on it, like they did with the T3 Sporter. I suppose that in the situation the rifle was designed for, you want to have a bit more resistance to prevent an unintentional discharge. But how many will use it for that purpose.
The nice thing with the set trigger is you can fire it with a 2-3 lb pull without "setting" it or 7oz. the other way.

Regardless of accuracy potential, the people who drop the cash on a Accuracy International or Sako TRG aren't going to give a hoot about ANYTHING with the name Tikka on it...

People who are after AI or TRG have nothing against Tikka itself. The problem is that Beretta will never make Tikka comparable to higher tires of their own product line. So Tikka will always be "budget", A7 will always be in the middle, TRG will top of the line. So obviously if you are shopping for AI level, Tikka is not in the same ballpark by design.
