Hello All.

The missus would like an autoloader for Christmas. She wants to hunt Turkey, Deer, and basically have an all around good shotgun.

She has shot a Benelli SuperNova, and is OK with a pump, but she would be happier with an autoloader for decreased weight and recoil. She has held a Urika 2, and liked the weight and feel. I think Extrema should be similar....

I have it pretty much narrowed down to a Beretta Uriaka 2 or an Extrema 2. Dont necessarily need the 3 1/2", but never hurts to have it I guess. I can get both for the same price thereabouts.

I've searched around for comparisons, both sound like good guns, but any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I can highly recommend the Extrema 2. Cycles everything from Walmart specials to 3.5 inch from day one. Light weight, stock is adjustable. Can't tell you anything about the Urika 2 as I have never tried one. I have owned the A-301, 302 and the A-390 and loved them all. I'm sure she'll be happy with either one.

Same here, It's hard to beat the well roundness of the Extrema 2. My only complaint (as well as any Benelli) is that if you want to buy a slug barrel or longer or shorter etc, they cost almost as much as a new gun lol.

Considering this shotgun is for your "missus" she really should try shouldering the Xtrema2 prior to purchasing it. I had an X2 for a number of years and they certainly are great guns, but they are also big in hand and heavy. The Urika2 is smaller and can also be had in a youth/women's model. A proper fitting shotgun is very important, it will significantly improve enjoyment and accuracy.

Thanks for the replies!

I did shoulder an Extrema 2 again yesterday. As mentioned in thread, I also find that it may be a little on the heavy/bulky side compared to a Urika 2 (unfortunately, any store I hit only has one or the other in stock, so comparisons are tougher). I did shoulder the SBE II as well. I really like the feel of that, but not sure the wife would like it over the Urika, so why pay the $2K ( and maybe I'll put that on my list).

So, leaning towards the Urika 2 at the moment. Any further comments appreciated.

I picked up a Urika 2 with kick-off earlier this fall. Absolutely love it. Fits like a glove. I very rarely shoot a 3" shell so a 3.5 was not needed at all. So far it has fired everything I have put through it including bulk winchesters and federals that some guns seem to have trouble with.

If you are open to Benelli's have a look at the M2, it can be purchased with a 21" barrel and shorter LOP buttpad. They are very nimble and fast in hand, the comfort-tech stock does a good job at soaking up recoil as well.

Thanks Cinch. I'm certainly open to Benelli. Son has a Super Nova, and has been good to him.

The local shop seems to have an M2 in stock, and it is on sale. M2-APG Camo 12ga 3" 26" barrell. $1399. Pretty much same price as the Urika 2.

Can you tell me what the differences are between Urika 2 and M2, or any other pertinent info?

Thanks for your time.

I has a M2 like the one above. It's a beautiful gun, but it kick hard in comparison to my 391's. I ended up with a 20ga youth model for the wife (doubles as my upland gun) and a 391 Urika2 kickoff as my fowler.

The M2 is inertia driven, the Urika2 is a gas gun. Both are great autoloaders and can be configured for youth/women shooters. Arguably the Urika 2 with K/O will be best at reducing recoil while the M2 w/21" barrel and 13' LOP will be faster (handling) - though both are a matter of personal opinion/experience. Always best if your wife can handle (possible shoot) both guns prior to purchasing.

I've always been leery of semi's but finally gave in and bought a Urika with the kick-off and its been flawless for my needs.(turkey, goose and trap) If your wife can handle the recoil I would suggest going without the kick-off as it increases the LOP enough to be an issue with tyrannasaurus armed shooters.(no problem for me though as I'm 6"4")

I have owned both the M2 and the Urika. The Urika has noticeably less recoil even without the Kick Off. My daughter preferred to shoot the Urika all day. Also is there any real need for a 3.5inch gun. The gun is heavier, the ammo is more expensive and all the game you mentioned can be taken with 2 3/4 or 3 inch. Also if you want to buy any accessories (stocks, barrels, chokes etc) later the Urika stuff will be easier to find since many more of these have been made and sold than the other two. Buy the Urika, she won't be disappointed

Beretta phased out the 391 Urika for the newer A400. That might be an option to look at too. Most of the A400 models can take 3-1/2" shells like the Xtrema but in a lighter package. The A400 Light is a much lighter gun and like the A400 Sporting version are 3" only.
