I am looking to get a good duck hunting gun and wanted a 30 inch barrel and really like what I hear about the beretta extrema 2. I have seen in several stores the 26 and 28" versions but no where the 30". Is the 30" version going obsolete has it is not even showing on Beretta,s website? Does anyone have one and do you like it?

Well if you compare a 28" pump or semi to a S/S or O/U with 30" barrels the over all lengths are the same relatively.

That is why we do not see 30" barrels any more on pumps.

My Winchester SX3 28" is 1 inch longer than an 870 with a 28" barrel. Both have 14" LOP.

Tks for all the info but I usually go sea duck hunting every year and I found it helps to have the longer barrel especially when you are sitting in the rocks and ducks dont want to come in to close to shore. I just ordered by new beretta extrema 2 max 4 in 30" barrel and should have delivered by Friday. This is going to be a good xmas.....

Just curious why you went with the extrema instead of the urika? Do you use 3.5" shells for ducks?

yeah its nice to have 3.5 when you are shooting sea ducks and you want that extra range when shooting from shore. Also planning on getting into geese next season so might has well have the gun that can shoot everything reliably.

Sorry but, there is NO increase in distance by shooting 3.5 inch loads over 3 inch loads. You get more pellets and an increase in recoil! That is all!

Henry;)

I agree. I don't find I get much more range with 3.5, but on some going away shots such as when you nail the first honker and the flock climbs a bit and start to go away. The extra payload knocked them out of the sky with more authority.

I don't think the increase in recoil is that big a deal with the xtrema.

Technically the increase in pellet numbers increases your range. Just like 7/8 ounce in a 20 will have less theoretical killing range than 1 1/4 ounce of the same shot size out of a 12.

The problem is the associate recoil, but with a Beretta Semi Automatic recoil is reduced so the 3 1/2's make more sense.

If I had a 3 1/2 inch chambered B gun Semi I would shoot Kent 3 1/2 inch 1625 fps load of 1's or 3's and be secure in the knowledge I had a damn good set up for any waterfowl.

You're very right, killing birds going away is always a tougher shot then when dumping in the decoys. However, even with the Xtrema2 there is a noticeable increase of recoil from the the 3" to 3.5" loads. I think many hunters would be better served if they tightened up their chokes rather then taking the punishment of the 3.5" loads.

No increase in range with a longer barrel either. I prefer longer Barrels in some situations for smoothing my swing out on longer distance targets, choke keeps the pattern usable for the applicable range.

You have to be careful though alot of people use too much choke and are no farther ahead due to blown patterns.

I really don't think 3.5 out of the xtrema is too much punishment. Mine doesn't have kick off and I can shoot it without shouldering the gun pretty easily. Focus on the follow through and I doubt you'll be able to tell what you're shooting.

3.5" steel? or 3.5" 2oz+ turkey loads?

Mostly steel. I dumped a few 3" turkey down the pipe, but waiting for spring to get some williams sights to do a proper patterning for gobblers.

This is my first 3.5" gun. I always shot 2.75 or 3" before since thats what my browning was. After hesitantly picked up a box to try, I was converted. Also great for knocking out cripples that are about to pick up and "air walk" across the field.

I found that percentage wish, 3.5 don't pattern as well as 3s, BUT the 3.5 still has more pellets on target than the 3s.

Choke selection is important, this goes without saying.
