Berger Bullets

VLD bullets

I used the 185gr VLD's in my 300 wby last fall. I shot a whitetail buck in the neck a 300 yards. 2 1/2" exit hole. worked well. I also shot a bull elk at 268 yards. he was quartering away a bit. so it went in at the back of the lungs and stopped in the off side shoulder. entry hole was small but there was massive detruction inside. his lungs were basically gone and his hear was just floating in there when I opened him up. there wasn't much left of the bullet. he only went 25 yards after the shot. I was also shooting today at 500 yards with the same gun and load. I was blowing through poplar trees 8" to 12" in diameter. I think they are good.
just my opinion.

Pretty much a long range hunters dream come true.
For what I hear they are no different from a Hornady up close.

What are you shooting them out of??

killed a moose at 25yards went right through massive exit hole shot a blacktail deer 300yds right through big hole & a elk at 435yds shot him 2 times both in lungs both stayed inside but massive damage.iam really happy so far.

If you go to the Berger website, they have a lot of tech about their bullets and hunting.

I know they have been very successfully in the US but I dont expect them to be a 'strong' bullet.

Think old gen Nosler Ballistic tips and hunt appropriately.

I would not want to see what a Berger does when it hits bone @ 30-378 Wby impact speeds at *normal* hunting ranges.............

It is difficult to imagine a more enthusiastic bullet tester than the 30-378. Add a short range off angle shot and you could easily be asking more of the bullet than it can deliver.

I wouldn't consider using it for normal hunting ranges when there are so many other capable choices.

If you are setting up for a 300+ yard shot it might be the best choice.
FWIW the 208 Amax is earning a reputation for great accuracy and very good long range game performance.

Do a search over at longrangehunting.com

At extreme speeds a Berger just wont penetrate enough when it hits muscle and bone, there is much better choices for a hunting bullet - something that can handle high speed as well as low. 30-378 shooting a 180 gr Barnes TTSX @ 3400 fps wont drop below 2000 fps until 750 yards. If you got the shooting skills to purposely set up for a 750+ yard shot on game you probably wouldn't be asking questions about bullets on a gun forum
