Hello,
I was wondering what input anyone has who has experience in these two products.
Berger 7mm Hybrid target 180gr and Lapua Scenar L 180 gr

I currently use the bergers and am still in load development stages
But I see these lapuas lingering around at a local retailer and at $30 less a box.

now I want to be clear the $30 savings is not worth the lack of quality or performance, just a bonus.

Anyone have any input?
are they comparable Lapua worth a shot.

Besides isn't lapua and berger now one company?

thanks

Few F class shooters use the scenar L Berger is bullet of choice in winners circle, There is quite a few shooting scenars in Full bore TR shooters

One of the top Canadian FClass technical guys, Gord Ogg, says the Lapua bullets are more uniform as measured by Junke machine (jacket concentricity) and other measurements. Bergers, as mentioned, are by far the most popular dues to high B.C bullets.

Sierra is making challenges -we'll see how that goes.

hi, so went to the range today and was able to try some of my handloads.

so far best top 2 of 10 strings of 10 rounds was @ 50.6gr and 51.3gr of H4350
these cartridges had a O.A.L of 3.278"

average velocity for 50.6gr was 2810fps
S.D. from shots 2 through 10: 7.8, 9.5, 9, 8.7, 8.3, 8, 8.1, 8.3 and 9.2

average velocity for 51.3gr was 2834fps
S.D. from shots 2 through 10: 7.8, 7, 5.7, 5, 5.4, 8.2, 7.9, 7.4 and 7.2

this was shot @ 200yds to and in heavy to moderate rain, as it began to rain while shooting.
my M.O.A was not good as I attribute that to my inexperience in shooting and I currently have a horrible rear rest that is responsible for some horrible tracking. New rest is on its way!

both were under .8 M.O.A , I know horrible!!!!! but I have a lot to learn.

Odd thing was that at lower charge and velocity, my accuracy wasn't much different and my S.D. was much much better.
@ 49.3gr I was averaging 2734fps and the S.D. from shots 2 through 10: 1, 0, 4.1, 3.7, 3.6, 6, 5.7, 5.6 and 5.4

Berger Hybrid Target 180gr

despite a couple of the replies, I am going to try the lapua and see how they shoot. I know they are not popular in F class, what I have read and a few videos I have seen, I don think it will hurt. one thing I notice as I go through all this and meeting new people and shooters is that no two guns shoot alike.

anyways thought I would share.

cheers!!!

I have competed in F Class a wee bit and have put quite a few of both the Lapua Scenar and
Berger Hybrid (and VLD) down range.(less than some but more than most)
The smallest 10 shot 300 yard group was done with sorted Berger Hybrid
The smallest 100 shot group was with Lapua Scenar
Your barrel will tell you on the target which it prefers.
You may find your chamber throat will have an impact as optimum for each is a little different.
My recommendation is work your best load for both and let your target tell you
(I’ve won long range matches with both)
Best Regards

well I was able to hit the range with the Lapua Scenars
Unfortunately the regional police Dept highjacked the 200yd range, I was forced to use the 100 meter range.

Either way groups were good and average speed was 2867fps and the standard deviation for a string of 9 of 10 shots are:
1. 2875 fps S.D. 2.8
2. 2869 S.D. 3.1
3. 2866 S.D. 3.7
4. 2875 S.D. 3.8
5. 2860 S.D. 5.7
6. 2864 S.D. 5.6
7. 2866 S.D. 5.2
8. 2852 S.D. 7.3
9. 2873 S.D. 7.2

51.3 grains of H4350
O.A.L 3.184"
Lapua brass
lapua Scenar L 180's
Federal Match Large rifle primers

I shot the 140 vld targets in my 6.5-06 for quite awhile and tried the 139 scenars, the lapuas shot just as well as the bergers and did a tighter group at 1200 yards so i switched to them and have bin shooting them for a couple years now with no complaints.I don't know what the difference between the scenar and the scenar L is but the scenar 6.5 139 gr. has a higher bc than the scenar L in 136 gr.
The Lapuas are cheaper by about $20 a 100

I'm saving over $30 per box.

When the Lapua's came out it was found that to clear the donut area using a 284 case you needed a longer throat than a Berger. Most of the F-Class shooters didn't want to chamber their rifles for a single bullet that wasn't proven at the time. I tried them and they shot extremely well but eventually stayed with a Berger VLD. Now I am shooting the Matrix 175 VLD because it is CDN made.

I sold my 284 (dumb move) but when I had her I shot the 180 Scenar L and it was a hammer out to 1200 metres. I ran Lapua brass and H4350 powder and averaged 2825fps with ES of 6fps. It was probably the most consistent rifle I have ever owned and shot.

I as well shot both the Berger 140 Hybrid and the 139 Scenar out of a 6.5-06. Either I never figured out a seating depth for the bergers or my rifle just likes the Scenar. Shot matches at 600. Produced more than acceptable results. I did find the the Scenar to be more consistent but possible just the lot # I got from Berger.

How much powder charge.
I'm at 51.3gr and so far seems to be good.
