I was looking at a used Berreta 92F in really nice shape ie: nearly unused.. and suddenly realized that I had never heard of a 92F...92FS yes I've seen lots of them so what is the difference,the guy behind the counter mentioned that is an older model.
If I could draw on your vast knowledge it would be appreciated.
 
So the only real difference is that the 92F will launch a slide into my brain-pan and the 92FS won't?
Seriously though is this a real concern...like should I forget the 92F.
 
The 92F is a great gun, I wouldn't shy away from it. There have been no factory warnings or recalls.
 
When the 92f was launching slides it was after more rounds then most people will shoot of repeated tourture tests their both a great gun. I have a fs but wouldNt hesitated to add a f to the safe

US Army Tests

The failure of the slide to remain on the frame of the very good Beretta 92F was the result of the Army testing the gun with full power machine gun ammo. This was not an authorized test. The Beretta 92F was NOT designed to fire full power, full auto 9mm loads. A number of 92F slides subsequently failed.
Beretta addressed the problem with a fix for the next generation, the 92FS. Should you encounter or acquire a 92F Beretta, you should have no problems if you fire factory loads or reasonable reloads.
