I got a bear and wolf hunt planned again for this September and I'm just curious how the berries are coming along. Area is near the watershed and sultan to be more exact. I know they logged a lot near where I hunt hoping the bears stayed in the area

I'm about an hour north of the watershed and it's looking good. Nothing's ripe yet of course but there are a lot of green berries on the bushes. In a few weeks it should be a really good crop. A little frost in the spring but with all this hot weather we've been getting it they should be big and plentiful.

ETA: I'm up around Cochrane but I can't imagine it'll be too different out by Chapleau though.

They are picking already in Sudbury, I have not heard a report on how plentiful the berries are... saw both berries/bears and wolves last weekend north of 560, when I was out fishing...

They're just starting up south of the watershed. No shortage of bears at all, saw 5 adults on my drive to camp southwest of the watershed. No wolves yet for me, but they're around and in good numbers, saw quite a few over the winter.

Some of the fresh cuts up that way stay loaded with berries up until the beginning of September, good luck with your hunt. My camp is in that general region and I'll be doing a couple trips this fall looking for a big bear.

The first week of September you can spot and stalk the cuts... there are still enough berries to draw bears.

The blueberry bushes in the clearcuts north of Sudbury were loaded with berries well into September last year. Lots of bear crap everywhere.

Agree... some years they are still pooping berries almost until October... but in the first half of September, the berry cuts are usually a solid choice.

Last year was a great year for berries. Many small bears hitting my baits. Had a nice big male I wanted but shot a smaller bear that was trying to join me in my stand. It was an interesting night as I had an angry sow under me with cubs up trees on each side of me. Maybe this year I'll get higher than 6' off the ground

We got a heck of a crop of black caps this year thy are as thick as I have ever seen them in southern Ontario ,I think the bears can clean up a patch of berrys pretty quik ,should make for some great eating bears this year ,wish I had a place to hunt them ,it is one of the animals that is on my bucket list as I have never hunted them yet Dutch

Just saw my first berry pickers of the season while running the dogs this morning. Berries are starting to become plentiful now. Up until last week, there were not too many ripe ones. They are a couple of weeks late this year, as are most things, considering the spring we had.

Wife and I went for a bush road drive yesterday looking for berries. Lots of berries but a lot more green ones than blue, it will be several weeks yet before there ripe. Dryden area. Haven't seen a bear yet this year or a pile of bear doo. Even scarce at the dump.

Went out picking yesterday morning. To my dismay, I found that while there are now berries, they are not particularly thick. Scarttered berries makes for a lot of walking. I spoke with a couple of sellers who were out collecting their cash crop and they said the same thing. There are still lots of unripe berries, so again, with luck, the peak is yet to come.

As much as I love wild berries I hope the season is short and the bears are hungry the second week of September. I'll hopefully have a new load to try in my 458
