Bersa 9mm's @ Marstar

Did Marstar get a special run made for the Canadian Market ?
They advertise a 110mm BBL, but the Thunder 9 has a 4.2" BBL, making it 106.68 mm.......
I thought only less than or equal to 106mm was prohib ?...the Bersa factory supplied BBL is larger than 106mm

The Bersa's I've seen over the years are generally good, well made guns, but my experience has been with the smaller calibre guns; I've no experience with this one. Are they a new model?

They are made in Argentina and the same gun is also marketed as a Firestorm or FS9.
It uses a modified Browning action.
I sort of looks like the Walther P-88 pistol

Looks nice! and the price is great too....

I know there's a mini-review in one of the gun mags I have, will have to read it again...hmmm might actually get one

I got one from them. It's light and well made. The two tone finish is very nice. Trigger is nice and crisp. I'll be taking it to the range this weekend. I'll be back after that with a report. So far, I like it.

Bersa Thunder 9

I have had a Bersa Thunder 9 for a number of years now and have never had a problem. Well, one time whilst cleaning it, I pulled out the slide stop spring and had a heck of time getting it back in place. My fault though, not the pistol. It goes bang everytime I pull the trigger.

The only drawback is they generally ship with one magazine and magazines are expensive. They are not commonly found either.

The Bersa and the Firestorm are manufactured in the same plant. The difference between them is the shape of the trigger guard. The Bersa has a squared guard whilst the Firestorm is rounded. In my opinion, the Firestrom looks nicer.

I suggest you visit www.bersatalk.com. This is one of the finer forums that I frequent.

so as a newb here, I like the look but have not seen any in person. so has anyone bought one from marstar yet? if so please give us a good review of honestly and maybe some comparisons to what you shot. pics are always welcome too.

THANKS

Finally got it out this weekend. Excellent results. Pretty busy for the next couple of days, but will get at a report and pictures very soon. I can say right now, I don't regret buying this one. As usual from Marstar, good gun at a good price.

Sorry I took so long guys, just too damn busy lately. Here's my report, for what it's worth. I've cut and pasted some narratives and specs also.

Characteristics
  • Caliber: 9 x 19 mm (parabellum)
  • Operation: Semiautomatic
  • Magazine capacity: 17 cartridges (pinned to 10 here)
  • Rear sight: Dovetailed
  • Front sight: In the slide
  • Safety: Firing pin
  • Grips: Polymer
Dimensions
  • Overall length: 7.5 in.
  • Height: 5.5 in.
  • Width: 1.5 in.
  • Barrel length: 4.3 in.
  • Weight: approx 28 oz.

Bersa pistols are manufactured in Argentina by the Bersa S.A. company. The Thunder-9 pistols are of locked breech design. Thunder series pistols are relatively compact and handy, yet they offer significant capacity with major pistol calibers, combined with good, fully ambidextrous ergonomics. Bersa pistols also are relatively inexpensive and offer decent reliability, making them good personal defense firearms. Bersa Thunder 9 pistols are standard issue pistols for the Argentinean Federal Police and the Buenos Aires Province Police.

Bersa Thunder-9 pistols are locked breech, short recoil operated firearms of Browning type. The barrel is locked to the slide by a single large lug, which engages the ejection port in the slide. The unlocking is caused by the cam-shaped underbarrel extension. Trigger is of double action type, with exposed hammer and ambidextrous frame mounted safety, which decocks the hammer when engaged, then locks the slide and sear. The action also features a firing pin safety, which blocks the firing pin until the trigger is pressed. The slide release lever also is ambidextrous, and the magazine release button can be easily mounted on the either side of the grip. The 9mm magazine is a double stack type, holding 17 rounds (pinned to 10 here). Sights are fixed, with front sight integral to the slide and rear dovetailed to the frame.

For me, it's a nicely made, well designed and balanced pistol. Even at a 17 round mag capacity, my medium hands have no trouble getting a solid grip. It's light, but doesn't suffer from recoil. The grips are polymer, but well checkered, comfortable and not cold and hard to the feel. The finish is excellent and well done.

I'm going to enjoy having this in my collection.

Target is a standard bullseye. This is ten rounds @ approx 25 - 30 feet, from the first box of fifty through the pistol.
