Hey all, I initially was very interested in the Tract Toric, and even applied for a IIC, but it looks like shipping things into Canada is plain expensive and a hassle, so I'm looking elsewhere. I've been fairly interested in the Vortex Viper PST Gen II, and the Athlon Ares ETR. Does anyone have any opinions/experiences with either of these that could help? It's very back and forth between the two. As well, anything else within that price range that is well liked would be awesome! Thanks!

EDIT: It's primarily going to be used shooting at a range on my .308 out to 1000m, and I'll also be using it for some hunting

Scope to do what exactly? I assume LRP, since the Ares only comes in a 4.5-30x

Personally i think Vortex isn't worth spending any $ on, so i would look at the Ares. Though there a plenty of options in that price range. For my $, it's always going to be glass clarity over magnification

Oops! I forgot to include that. I'll edit my original post. It's primarily going to be used shooting at a range on my .308 out to 1000m, and I'll also be using it for some hunting. I'm not too concerned about magnification, as I've shot out to ~1600m on 15x, so I also prefer glass clarity, but 20x+ is preferred.

Both thos4 scopes are not the best for hunting or target shooting.
The reticle are to cluttered.

The VX 5 hd 3-15 ??
Or the night force shv 5-20
Duplex reticle.
Both have better glass, zero lock and can be had for $1500

I run an Athlon midas TAC on my target gun. Less than your budget and I've taken it out to 1400M. I am a fan of the Athlon offerings. Vortex would be last on my list unless it's the razor HD

I have had good experiences with the Vortex PST 2's. I imagine any of there higher models would be as good or better. I only have one comparison better which is an assortment of my friends Night Force's but that is apples and oranges against a PST

It's an interesting question. In the Athlon line it would be the ARES BTR GEN2 4.5-27x50, priced at around $1200. I have one an am happy with it, I think I would have to spend into the $2500 market to get a noticeable improvement.

I've owned a Bushnell DMR2 3.5-21x50. I didn't think it was any better than this Ares BTR, and the BTR has better specs and features.

I was researching the long range glass the entire 2020 and ended up with Falcon X50 10-50x60 SFP rated for 1000 meters.
Out of the mainstream.
Now ... I have not tried it for that long 1000 because I have an air rifle only (FX Impact) but the glass is so sharp I can clearly see the .25 holes @ 300.
I order it from Netherlands for $1137 total got it to my door, Japanese glass. Saved about $280 before tax vs canadian piece price.

Steiner P4xi 4-16x56
Built like a tank. Illuminated, Zero stop. 30 mils elevation. Made in the USA.
Not sure on availability these days, but I have one and it kicks the crap out of everything in its price range. They were sub $1k down south.

I got a Bushnell Elite Tactical DMRII on sale a few months ago for around $1450.

That would be my pick over a PST or Athlon. Of those two, I would take the Athlon over the Viper.

They are on sale again. Cheaper than that at some places.

I too have a DMR II. Nice scope. Its not like my Razors, but for the price it's pretty good when on sale. Doesn't have the same robust build or glass, but at medium and close ranges it's great. Lets face it, most scopes don't get beat like military applications.

where are they listed? Im interested

Your username is very fitting OP.

There are many options in that range but nothing will stand out.

I would recommend the one you like best, with a decent warrenty, and decent resale.
