Hey Fellas,

After much research (despite the critics) I'm in the market for a .17 this year. With all the options out there its hard to choose just one. I'm looking at something for pest control for on the ranch and light enough to pack around in the light brush. The question is
What would you choose in the:
$250 range
$350 range
Under $500 range

$250 range= savage 93r17
$350 range= savage 93r17
Under $500 range= savage 93r17

You really don't need to spend more for a great 17, just read all the great reviews on the savage.

CZ452 or even better a CZ453. American or varmint. Whichever you prefer. I have both, I prefer the American for carrying in the field. Shoots just as well with its light barrel as a bull barrel.

Bang on, the 93r17 is fantastic and simple. Easy to use, clean, shirt smooth action and very light with a normal barrel, and not much heavier with a bull barrel (which is what I have).

It should be mentioned that depending on the model the model 93 covers all those price ranges! Bought my wife the BTVS version and she absolutely loves it, and I like it so much I want to get the skeletonized version!

i have shot both the savage 17 and the CZs. i pick the cz by a large margin. the finish is much nicer. most important it feels good in my hand. they both were very accurate. but the all steel CZ is the winner for me.

I have a savage fvss and a browning t-bolt varmint both in 17HMR. Ones no more accurate than the other, just alot prettier but for almost double the $$. Cabela's Can. has a savage classic on their website for $539 right now, also a beautiful gun.

I'm settled on CZ... but a 455. I like the barrel swap option and want to give it a chance. Even if its a gimmick the idea of only one trigger job/rings etc. appeals to me.

Any suggestions on where to pick up the .22 mag and LR barrels separate?
