Best 1911 in .45 around $1000 ??

Go Sr1911. Solid gun for the money. Only change would be adjustable sights. Not a problem Novak cut, lots to choice from. Gun, sight change, around $1000.00 or less, results-shooter with big silly grin.

Got any recommendations on adjustable sights for the SR? I'm curious.

I should have asked BEFORE putting in that Brownells order!

Novak, LPA, if you wish to use a Bomar type sight make sure you don't have to machine rear of slide. If front sight needs to be changed, due to height change of rear sight find out if it needs to be fitted as some do.

How about asking $1000 from your wife and use three to four hundreds to buy a new model chromed Norinco (very showable ) save six hundred for message.......I mean massage. Lol.

Would suggest you shoot the gun first it might be every thing you want right out of the box.

I was thinking more of specific sights, but thanks. I see Dlask has an adjustable Novak style. I'd prefer an LPA, but not at the cost of having the slide cut for it. I've sent them an email for options.

I've had the SR for a couple of years now. I think it's on the keeper list ;)

OP - Shooterschoice.ca still lists a few Spartans. list price already includes the tax. Dale's a great guy too - he might trim a bit of fat if you ask really nicely.

I personally like Bomar sights, butvgettin the sight cut is a PITA. Gives better sight picture, and no sunlight comes from bottom of sight blade than LPAs. Novaks are the next alternative I guess.

I prefer the bomar type myself for both that and also the aesthetics. I'd honestly prefer plain old GI sights to Novak.

I suppose that the lesson is to figure out what you like, and then going forward only buy what comes thus equipped. Saves time n money in the end.

The "melted in" Bomars from the late 80s were beautiful and super functional for adjustable sights. They were the cherry on top of the custom Behlert two tone guns from that era!

ouch to "Prairie Plinker" yeah I sent R1 $75 mail in rebate the day I received it, May 25th, and I thought they were pretty late on it. I filled out all the info and packaged it with receipt and all, all very nicely

I emailed them and received a reply that my rebate is in their system - 8-10 weeks. I'm due to get $75 back in august! ... $625 for a brand new Remington R1 commander hahahaha

ive got a a couple 4 Norcs, ive got a pair of SAMs and a pair or SR1911 and a kimber.

what gun is the best for under $1000?

the Kimber.
there is no discussion, there is no comparison there is no nothing.
the Kimber is the best fit and finish and put together gun of all the 1911's i have.

mine is just the base model Kimber Custom II and i picked it up on sale for $800 and change and ive seen them for 8-900 here on sale recently as well.

The R1 ENHANCED is a nice gun but they jumped up a LOT in price over the last 3 years.
time was you could get into one for $750, now you cant get into a Enhanced for under 1000-1200, and if im gonna spend 1000 im going Kimber.

STI i have no opinion on.
but i also dont have any, that in itself says a lot i guess.... im sure ill pick one up some day when i find one i like.

end of day you get what you pay for.
my suggestion to anyone who wants to spend $1000 on a 1911 is to get a Kimber Custom II or a invest a little bit more and get the Kimber Custom Target II with adj rear sites.

my next 1911 is going to be a Dlask.
ive had nothing but good luck with all the stuff i get from Joe and im really wanting to see what he can do with a 1911.

from the people ive heard of that have them they are great guns.

His guns do seem pretty reasonable for a custom job

He no doubt gets his frames and slides in semi-finished, but I wonder if you can get one without the goofy forward serrations... Of course for what I have in mind a Gold Cup National Match is pretty much the answer in terms of form and function. Still, something Canadian built would be special.
