newbie looking for suggestions on first handgun purchase.

.22, best quality semi pistol out there?

not so much concerned about cost, just looking for the best quality, something I can own and last a lifetime, reason i would pay more now than less expensive if it make a difference from those who know.

thankyou rkwm

You might consider GSG 1911. Good tech support from Blueline. My only complaint so far was the wear on the slide where the slide stop locks in after the last round. Otherwise, a good 1911 platform to start shooting plus a relatively cheap ammo cost. I heard Browning is also good, but smaller than a standard 1911. If you own a 1911, you might consider getting some conversion kits from MARVEL and other manufacturers. You spend less and needs no registration. Just bring it with you to the range and swap outright.

thanks was looking more for the traditional 1911 design.

good luck finding the S&W.

1911 was considering the GSG. will have to go take a look at blueline.

seems to be problems with some of the components quality.

the writing on the gun looks so cheap.

so was wondering if anything better out there.

Colt would be one of the better ones around $600.
Gsg is the best buy for under $400. The parts that were failing were easy fixes and I think they sorted that out already.

I was able to fondle the GSG the other day at Prophet River in Lloyd. I was surprised at how nice they were, I would pick one up with the wood grips.

I was also very Impressed with the " Buck Rogers " Neos. They are allot better looking in real life and feel awesome.

Plus they eat pretty much anything you throw in them, and are a snap to disassemble.

Regarding the original question about a 1911-esque pistol, I have handled the GSG, and it felt nicely made.

i love my gsg, i had a conversion kit for my .45 for awhile but just got a whole pistol instead and sold the kit. i believe the colt also takes the gsg mags, which is nice as they are only 30$.

I have shot the Kimber and found it jamming far too often. I moved to the Browning but its a smaller scale so its not for you if you want to maintain platforms. I would take a look at the GSG

I'm getting a GSG 1911. They also make the Sig one so if Sig lets them use their name the GSG guns must be good. The finish on the slide wears quickly. A friend has a GSG, and I loved it when I shot it. Be careful of the tiny Allan screw used to hold it together when you take it down for cleaning. Don't lose it
Like all 22s, they get very dirty quickly. I like the sturdy mags too.

I would love to see a rock island arms 1911 .22. I think they are the only fully steel 1911 .22. Sure don't hear much about them. Can they be converted to higher calibers?
