Hi there.

Daughter's hooked on her CZ 455, and now she wants a pistol in .22. What would you recommend, and why?

The purpose, of course, is killing paper, as hunting with pistols is nich-nich.

Thanks!

Steyn

The direct approach would be a Ruger mark 4. I have a mark 3 22/45 which is fun to shoot, very accurate and a total pain to clean. My personal preference is a Beretta 71, but those have not been made since the late 1980's.

A Browning Buckmark deluxe model with the shaped grip is a great gun and easy to handle was and is my wife's favorite, very reliable and not too heavy with a fiber front sight making targets easy to see.

How are the Buckmarks's cleaning wise? I've been thinking about one lately too...
Actually Browning says do not do a complete clean I believe but we clean around the action near where the roads go into the chamber with alcohol and the bore and not much else.. I don't loosen the screw to remove the barrel at all as it can work lose because of aluminium casting. But put light grease and or oil on the slides and it has been over 45000 rounds and still shoots as well today as new.

I did take it apart when I did not know better to clean it once around the firing pin and the spring took a trip across the room that holds the assembly together. I ordered a new one and never did that again.

Ruger MKIV 22/45. Most accurate and reliable .22lr pistol I have ever shot. Super easy to clean unlike its older versions (which are horrible in that aspect). Just remove the magazine, put it on safe, press the rear button and it instantly comes apart in 2 pieces and then you just pull out the bolt to clean. To put it back together just put the bolt back in the slide, and push the slide and receiver together and its all back together. My nephew and nieces love shooting it. Shoots anything you put in it, loves the cheap stuff. Sights are great, but also comes with a rail if you want to put a red dot on.

I put 10-15 thousand rounds through my gsg 1911.i put every bulk 22lr there is and it never get any failures .I clean it every 500 rounds and runs like a champion.

Not to upset the GSG guys but how many can you take out of the box and not have to add parts to to make them work well..

Not the best to give to a lady that wants them to just work.

Browning 1911-22 is amazing. Small but not too small, and only weighs one pound with a full mag.

My wife is 5'2" and it's like a normal gun in her hands, and I'm 6'2" and I can still hold it without my pinky coming off the bottom.

Don't buy anything else without holding this, it's an amazing gun. Stoppage, free, too.

We can't get the compact here because it would be Prohib, but the regular "long" model is just fine for Restricted.

That is the best .22 pistol, but impossible to find. Literally nobody has one in stock that looks like that :(

OP, you asked for the best ? I had and shot many and if you want the cadillac, spend the $$ and get a Smith 41. More expensive but the trigger, sights, overall quality, accuracy and ergonomics are worth it. Don't get me wrong, Rugers are great pistols but not in the same league.
