Best .270 Rifle and Round

270 Winchester

The 270 is a great dear and medium game cartridge, it was originally designed to shoot a 130 grain bullet at approx. 3000 fps. and it stops dear like lightning. I am a long time Remington owner and fan, but the new Tika T3 rifles function very well and are guaranteed to shoot 1 inch or less at 100 yds. I just recently aquired a T3 Lite used and it shot Remington, Winchester and Hornady ammo into less than 1 inch, the best group was with the Hornady 140 gr. interlock 0.3 of an inch. So now I am a Tika fan and they can be had new for about 650 which leave you with enough money for a good scope.

Anyone have first hand experience with the newer X-Mark Pro trigger from Remington?

Also I hear that Tikka is made up of a lot of plastics, would anyone like to clear this up with me? Or is Tikka doing what everyone else is and making their trigger guards and etc.. out of molded non-metal materials?

Remington SPS are a good bet, but may require a trigger job to get it as nice as the Tikka.
I'm pretty happy with my 270Win SPS. Stock is a Bansner.

I used to have a .270 built on a Mauser 98 action that was as accurate as any modern rifle. I also had a M-54 Winchester that was equally so. If you could find an old M-54, you would have many of the advantages of the M-70 without the big price tag. It also cocks on closing, so if you have a sticky bolt it's not trying to #### the action and withdraw the cartridge in the same motion.

In a modern rifle I would take a hard look at a Ruger 77. These rifles seem to be accurate, reliable, and reasonably priced. Topped with a good hunting scope this rifle would solve just about any shooting problem you encountered.

The bullet you choose should be matched to the game you are hunting, but if you want a single bullet to do it all I guess without thinking too hard about it I'd choose the 140 gr TSX.
