Hello fellows,

Without starting the Third World War  what do you consider to be the best .308 tactical/precision shooting rifle, scope and cartridge?

Thank you,

Out of the box you say? This looks like fun;)

-AI, PGW, Sako.
-S&B, Hensoldt (TT is still vapourware, time will tell).
-.260 Remington (if it has to be .308 then lapua brass).

Too many variables. Have never owned or shot a pgw coyote but it would likely be between that a Chou bros custom. Scope, s&b or nf. Cartridge, if I was doing only fair weather shooting, I'd likely try lapua 308 Palma brass. As far as bullets and powder go, whatever the gun likes! Chou's can spec a reamer for whatever you like.

This one... Scout Supply Co. custom build rifle, S&B PMII 5-25x LT MTC P4F RAL8000 & factory Norma 168gr SMK match ammo.

Factory rifle: PGW Coyote

Factory glass: NightForce

Factory ammo: Federal Gold Medal Match

You can look at others but often your only spending more with a similar result. It also appears that some other posters have failed to read the "out of the box" part of your question.

Hi fellows,

I do not know if my answer is correct, but I will offer my two-cents for interest :)

TAC®-308 MCMILLAN TACTICAL RIFLE

Schmidt Bender PMII 3-27x56 L/P LT H59 RAL8000 Riflescope

Winchester PDX1 DEFENDER

Happy to take criticism on these choices

Thanks,

TDM

McMillan builds nice rifles but is that one available with 10 round mags?
It won't matter for range use but if you decide to get into competitions most stages are 10 rounds and you will be at a disadvantage with 5 rounders.

Scope - Sweeeeet.

The ammo - 120gr seems a little light and will get blown around quite a bit. I'd go at least 155gr with a preference going to 175 to 185 grain made by Lapua or Feds FGMM factory ammo (If you are not reloading).

Also don't forget to budget for a quality scope mount like NEAR or Spuhr (one piece is the way to go imho) you want to make sure whatever mount you get is rock solid or even the fanciest rifle or scope won't matter.

Well, I've got 3 "Out of the Box" or I should say "Out of the Equipment Exchange".

PGW Coyote, HS-Precision HTR 2000 and a Sig 3000 with the McMillen stock, and shooting factory Federal Gold Medal Match .308 they are all hell on wheels.

They all have good high powered glass (NightForce and one S & B).

Still asking the same questions eh? Didn't learn your lesson under your old alias "Sir Isaac Brock"?

Snipershide tuned you up good, remember?

Till the next time...... f:P:
