I'm considering getting a rifle chambered for the .375 H&H. I'll probably end up spending somewhere between $1000-$1500 on just the rifle. I'm not sure whether to buy new or used but I want something with good workmanship and reliability so I've been kind of leaning more towards something like a Brno or Sako. Weight isn't really a factor to me so I'd rather have the better ballistics of a longer barrel like 24". The CZ 550 SAFARI MAGNUM claims to be "Known world wide as the 602 Brno" but I always thought Brno's had slightly better "old world" workmanship then the CZ's. Ideas, suggestions? :)
 
Well One is CRF and the other is pushfeed. I persoanlly am not the least bit offended by PF, I would try and find a nice Sako, barring that the CZ is supposed to be pretty good. BTW there is one for sale in the EE forum with a brown laminated stock fro just under 1000 including rings. Go back a few days and look.
 
I have a 602 in 375, it is a slightly different animal than a 550, loves 300 gr RN Hornady. Heavy ##### holds 5 or 6 in the mag love the set trigger.
 
Have them all but 378 ..H&H, Wby, Rum and like the Rum the best.

Extremely easy to load for, no compression problems, doesn't stretch recessively, fast, accurate. What's not to like?
The H&H is good (great) but in my opinion the Rum will kick the old boy's a$$ with starting loads.

Fwiw if you can shoot the H&H you can shoot the RUM.
 
There are push feeds, and then there are push feeds. I wouldn't have a problem with a Sako, but the M-700 is not the push feed I would want in a .375 rifle of any flavour. If you can find a .375 in a CRF rifle you like - the M-70 I used in Tanzania was a wonderful rifle - it is the better choice.

The new .375 Ruger/Hornady is something I would look at if I was doing it all over again. The cartridge seems perfect for North American big game, although it has yet to prove itself in the heat of Africa.
 
I have had 5--Sako, Win M-70 Classic, Brno 602, Interarms MK 10, Ruger #1 all were accurate enough but the sako would do consistant clover leafs at 100 yards. Brno was one from the early 1990's and took quite a few hours to smooth up, was a very heavy rifle. Best overall was the Sako and M-70 Classic. Worst were the Interarms and Ruger #1--they were both way too light for caliber and recoil was just plain nasty.

I have presently a pre-64 Mdl 70 375 H&H and an early FN action Sako that was re-chambered to 375 Wby, along with my new Ruger Hawkeye 375. I have had
a Sako Safari Grade 375 that was a wonderful rifle, but too rich for the way I use and abuse one, so it went to a good home. I also had an Interarms Alaskan MK X 375 that was OK and a CZ 550 in 375 and 416 Rigby. I don't particularly recommend the CZ, unless you wish to spend some money in having it bedded and stoned, much like the MK X needs.

For a practicle rifle that packs a punch in a very nice package that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, the Ruger African Hawkeye 375 is about as good as you'll find. My FN Sako 375 Wby has long been my favorite bigger bore, but the 375 Ruger is now neck'n neck with it.

Just my experience with the .375...

Wrong. Both the ZKK-602 and the CZ-550 are CRF. I own examples of both.

Its a new round, developed jointly by Ruger and Hornady, chambered in their new Hawkeye series rifles that are much slimmer and trimmer than the standard Mdl 77.

The round is 30-06 length, 2.5" with no belt. The head and rim are the same diameter as the belted magnums, but having no belt, the 375 Ruger has greatly increased case capacity...about 5-6% more than the venerable 375 H&H in a much shorter case. It is suited for use in any standard length action like the Ruger 77 or a Mauser 98. Ballistics show it a bit hotter than the 375 H&H, and so do my clockings of factory ammo and my hand loads. The Hornady factory ammo is quite well crafted, by the way...uniform chrono readings. It falls mid-way between the 375 H&H and 375 Wby...good company on each side, IMO.;)

I love my 375 Hawkeye African, and it takes a lot for me to say that, as it competes with two great rifles in my safe. I shoot routine 100 yd 3 shot clover leafs with it, right out of the box. I mounted a 2.5X8 Loopy VariX III in Warne QD mounts.

Recoil is a bit "brisk".:eek: It is nothing like the 416 Rigby this Ruger replaced, however. There is a well founded rumor that a 416 Ruger is in development, a natural for this case.:cool:
