What is the best 9mm 1911 style pistol?

I like the colt commander 9mm but it's out of stock everywhere and was a tad pricy anyway.

The SAM commander looks nice... Also was looking at the Tanfoglio 9mm too... Anyway am I missing something ? What is your pick for best 1911 in 9mm? Cheers.

Best and cheap don't usually go together. Best are names like Ed Brown, STI, Dan Wesson, Les Baer, Wilson Combat etc. In terms of best value I think it's pretty hard to beat a Springfield Armory Range Officer.

My Norinco np-29 is surprisingly well built...frame slide fit is better than a couple of my more expensive ones....just dumb luck...could be..or maybe they are just getting better..350$ delivered...trigger isn’t bad either after a little polishing..5#...I can live with that..

Buy used. I picked up a mint series 80, ok rather have a series 70, Colt Commander under a grand. Kicker was the previous owner had a Bomar match barrel fitted and gun was hardly fired. I put a Wilson combat long flat trigger in it. Thing’s a beaut.

Are those 9mm or 45?

Guess that is something you have to hunt the EE for eh?

The old Series 70/80 Colt Commanders and Combat Commanders are really soft shooting and accurate 9mms. They don’t have the bells and whistles of modern 1911s, like rails and extended safeties etc but are just beautiful classic guns. They can be had for around $1000 if you see one. But pick them up quick or they’re gone!

You could, however I got mine from a local gun store. Here it is, oh the match barrel is Bar-Sto
Funny the gun was fondled by the lookyloos but no takers, probably because it’s not a 45. Their loss, it is almost as accurate as my Les Baer.

Don’t know why pictures are rotated, anyway you get the idea. Buy used if you can:)

I can shoot the 1911 the most accurately of any handgun I have ever shot.
It just fits my hands perfect, I don't know what it is.
The only reason I sold my trusty old Norc 1911 is the cost of .45 ACP

I have been very tempted to get an 1911A1 Norc in 9mm but have heard nothing but bad things about them. FTF, FTE, a lot of feeding and cycling issues.
My .45 Norc 1911 was very well built, very well finished and extremely reliable. It even passed the single round load extractor test with no magazine. I went to 25 rounds in a row without an issue until I just got bored!

Any truth in the rumours of the Norc 9mm 1911's being junk/a dice toss on reliability? Or are they right up there with the .45 ACP version.
I would settle on one in a minute if I knew I wasn't going to get a damned lemon.
I can't justify dropping $1K on a range toy. So the Norc would be ideal. Anyone add to this with first hand experience?

my norc np29 has been running awesome. Most 9mm 1911 reliability issues come from the mag itself, wrong feed angle, mag body shape wont let the round come up level etc. Check my EE post for the NP29. it has all the bell and whistle as far as trigger and internals.

My Norc NP29 works just fine with everything I have fed it so far. Been trying different brands and bullet weights with no feeding or extraction issues. Any accuracy problems is from the loose screw behind the gun. The only problem I have had is from one of the mags that came with it, needs to be deburred.
