assuming all of them are the exact same price, which would you pick? consider all around perfomance, reliability, quality, reputation, fit and finish

Mossberg Reserve
CZ mallard
Stoeger Condor
Stevens 512

I would look at the cz or a used red label

Even a used Red Label is a better gun that a new CZ IMO.
For a low end gun, Stoeger are Mossberg good guns to look at ( shot both ), but if I was going to spend money on an O/U, I would be looking at something costing around 1,500 - $2,000.
There is a franchi Renasaince on the exchange at the moment that is a great deal, and a few Brownings as well.

naything in good used SKB , Redlabel or browning citori are a good bet. one problem with the condor from stoeger is that it doesn't have a select trigger.

Best O/U

I shoot a 20ga CZ Redhead and a 12ga Browning Superposed. I like both guns. It's true that the old Superposed is a good gun but IMHO the CZ is quite good as well. I put 300 rounds through the CZ the first time I shot it to be sure that everything worked. It passed with flying colours. I got a couple of grouse with it. Slugging through the bush with it all day wasn't too bad either.

The best bet is too go with a gun that fits. I threw scores of guns to my shoulder at various gun shows until I settled on the Browning Superposed. I saw the CZ 20ga at a gun shop. It looked nice so I threw it to my shoulder and it fit like the Browning.

Gun fit is crucial but throwing a gun to your shoulder a couple times and saying it fits is only fooling yourself. In the listed guns, gun fit is pretty generic for a wide range of people.

If the intended purpose for those guns is a couple boxes of shells a year at game fill your boots. If your planning any high volume shooting at clays or looking for longevity from that firearm spend the extra for a better made gun.

You may want to consider Fabarm too. The field guns start at $1249 and they are a pretty good bargain compared to the Berettas and Brownings in that range.

I have to say I've been fairly happy with my condor supreme. I had wanted a O/U for awhile and my wife bought me one for ouor wedding day. Contrary to what someone said earlier it does have a single selctive trigger, it also come with 5 chokes. Fit and finish was decent, my only gripes were the highly polished stock, would have preferred somewith an oil finish instead, but that can easily be fixed, and the auto on safety everytime you crack the barrel(it saved a couple birds much to my chargrin)

I agree. The Fabarm guns are good value and I think it's better spend a little more on an o/u because you get a lot more.

Out of the 4 I picked the CZ. Since it has been thrown wide open to other options, I would pick good used over any of those 4.

whatever you buy, make sure you have the right fit, balance, and point naturally for you, oh and the good trigger

imho, when you are going into an over and under, i agree with the members that you are looking to spend at least $1000 and up, or wait till you want to invest that much.

i have found in the last 2 years, terrific used excellent shape beretta bl-3 and browning citori and superposed for aroung the $800 to max $1000. tight actions and like new finish and wood, because i find from this experience that as a general rule, owners of over and unders really take care and pamper them.

be patient and look for the good quality used buy, rather than take a basic over and under for around $400 or $500, and later enjoy it but get that urge to sell or trade up. happy shopping!
