Best aftermarket stocks for Auto-5's

Looking to replace the wood stock with camo on my 3" A-5 for ducks this fall. Who makes the best aftermarket stocks and where can I get one?

I had good luck with the Ram Line stock. It was well priced and it worked very well. You can spend more but you won't get better performance. They can be had at most retail gun shops.

You have a few options for aftermarket stocks for your A5. My thinking is that you are referring to composite and not wood and I hope I am correct in this. This is probably more info that you wanted but I figured I might as well make my first post a long one..lol

One is the Ram-line set that was mentioned. I have a set and they appear to be decent for the money. They include a spacer for the forearm so they will fit both the 3" and 2 3/4 12ga. A-5's. Lifetime warranty, only come in black and are $74 at Wholesale Sports.

Second option is a set from Bell and Carlson. These are very well made and very tough. I have two sets of these, one on a light 12 and an older set on a 12 mag that I bought from Cabela's back in the early 90's. The newer ones made now are trimmer and less "bulky". They also come in a variety of camo patterns, lifetime warranty but are pricey at $190US. I don't know who would sell them in Canada. Bell and Carlson are recommending that they be fitted by a gunsmith.

Third option is a set from Browning themselves. Only come in black composite, would need to be fitted by a gunsmith and I am not sure about any warranty. $130US for the stock and $75US for the forearm which puts them as the most pricey of the three. Prices in Canada I would think would be higher.

My personal opinion is you get what you pay for but as madtrapper143 said above, the Ram-line's do work well for the price.

The Bell and Carlson stocks sound tempting but that is too much for the old gun. For now I think I will try to fix the cracked forearm. My gunsmith can fix it better than new for $75. The problem with the a 5's is that the forearm was not designed well. There should have been some type of small rubber gasket installed on the inside where the barrel guide slides into the upper inside of the the forearm upon firing. I might even intall some gasket on the other a-5's that I own before they crack.

Boyds also make replacement stocks for the A-5 .the stock is around $ 64 and the forend $ 45 if I recall.i think they also sell a semi finished stock set as well.
