Hello..

Does anyone have any recommendations as to which air pump is the best for pumping up my Marauder? I already have a scuba tank setup for filling at home but I need something to take into the field that I can carry.

I don't mind paying for quality so price isn't an issue. I also would consider buying second hand if someone knows of a used one that would work for me.

Any helpful responses are appreciated.

Thank-you.
Jim.

Thanks for pointing out that pump. Looks pretty sweet. I've been looking at some PCP rifles for a while. The pump has been the big stumbling block for me.

The Hill MK4 is probably the best hand pump you can buy, but one thing to consider is that it's considerable bigger / heavier than some of the cheaper ones.

The Benjamin and Air Venturi hand pumps are smaller. I have a Hatsan hand pump which has served me well which is in the medium range.

Just remember to pump at a slow and steady pace, and feel the cylinder every so often to ensure it's not overheating. Usually 5 minutes of pumping before taking a short break to cool. It's very important to not put any bending force onto the fully extended pump to avoid air leakage and damaging the unit.

Thanks for the advice. I will mostly be using the air gun around my farm. Is it worth while to buy a compressor first or should I get a hand pump first?

From my experience, and what others have said, everyone tends to buy a hand pump, and then eventually switches to tank / compressor. After that point they never use their hand pumps again. I have a 3500 psi tank that I use, haven't touched my hand pump for a couple years now. If you can avoid the hand pump and go straight to compressor / tank, you'll probably appreciate it. If you want to be more mobile with limited capacity to carry equipment, perhaps a hand pump is the way for you to go.

I notice you're out in Pitt Meadows... There's a great monthly air rifle field target shoot at the Mission Rod & Gun, usually the last Sunday of every month. Lots to learn there, and a great way to see some nice PCPs in action. Looks like I won't be making it until September next, but normally make it out regularly.

Target and / or pesting around the farm? That's always a lot of fun.
