Best air rifle to simulate a powder-burner

I am looking to get into air rifles and was wondering which technology is the best to simulate firing a regular rifle. Specifically I am wondering about springer vs. a single stroke pneumatic. I know one will have recoil and the other one will not. Since I am trying to use the air rifle as a tool to train with for a regular rifle would the older air file system with recoil be a better bet? I am looking at maybe a 300S vs a Walther (LGR? LGM-1?). Also which model would you recommend from the older european rifles? I would prefer one that is side lever operated instead of break action and I want it to look like a regular rifle.

Totally different kind of recoils. In an airgun there's forward momentum since the piston is moving forward(spring/air piston doesn't matter) and it stops violently, thus pulling the gun forward. In a firearm, the moving part is the bullet only (let's compare to a bolt action for simplicitys sake), so the reaction to that is the whole rifle kicks back as the bullet and propellant gasses leave the barrel. With that in mind, I would suggest you a pneumatic rifle for the most accurate and realistic recoil as compared to a real firearm.

Therefore, a pnuematic big bore air rifle would be your closest experience to the recoil of an actual powder burner. There are 9mm, 45 and 50 cal versions being sold in Canada for around $600 and up.

At that point you would almost be better off just using the cartridge firearms you have.
 
Thank for everyones input. As I said I am looking for a classic like a Walther LGR or a FWB300S so they will have a nice trigger. What are the price for those two in Canada if I can find them?
 
When I'm looking to buy/sell an airgun, I visit the Canadian Airgun Forum, as it is a Canadian forum and almost all of the members are Canucks!
I've seen Walthers and FWB listed on there for sale many times. You may want to join and check out the for sale listings to find a nice shooter like that.

Comb through D&L Airguns site, lots of goodies there. Spring-piston guns are the only ones that have any recoil, but as described here...not firearm-like recoil. The airgun I like using most has no recoil, is cheap, lots of punch...and I can practice shooting prone with it because I added a sling swivel stud/bipod. It's a bolt-action single shot .22cal. D&L sells them, though I bought mine used. Only real drawback is that CO2-powered guns really suck below about 10-12C. Anything over that, with a 9oz. CO2 bottle, you get plenty of full-powered shots.

I fondled a very nice rem 700 clone airsoft one day. 12gram co2 powered, bolt action, 10shot mag fed with bull barrel and scope. Had a pretty fantastic trigger too. It would be a kick ass airgun if that version is available.

Just had that very conversation tonight with one of the worlds premier shooters,
Going that way myself for my little guys.
