Hey guys - so I have this SSP. I have not bought any .22 ammo yet but I heard that the SSP has a different type of firing pin - a strike plate - and that ammo that has primer all across the back of the shell vs just in the rim in better. I am not familiar with this concept.
Can anyone confirm this? Also - what type of ammo would that be with primer across the back?

Thanks for any advice - Marty

I have never heard of any .22's that have priming compound totally in the base. Just in the rim.

Perhaps the strike plate hits the rim in more than one spot & gives more reliable ignition.
Just guessing on this though.

"...with primer across the back..." None. You'll have to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo your pistol will both shoot well and cycle the action. The price of said ammo means nothing. All .22's are like that.

The Canadian distributor for Walther recommended Lapua Standard Plus or RWS Target Pistol. I bought a brick of both to test and was very pleased with the RWS over several others I had tried including Eley Sport, DynaPoint, Winchester T22, Lapua Standard, etc.

Thanks

Thanks to all especially Rob for your input.
I had been using CCI Std velocity in my Walther KSP and am going to try is the SSP - but had heard other stuff worked better. So I will try your recommendations. Thanks again
