best ar15 for under $1300

I don't disagree with you but it's counter-intuitive to think it's not also more difficult on the extractor.

The steel case itself is not harder on the extractor. The case expands and contracts slower, so ars or most 556 guns(excluding famas iirc)designed for brass case use has a quick unlock time or whatever the technically correct way of saying that. My point it by the time most 556 guns are unlocking and trying to pull the case out the steel hasn't finished contracting, so it will create additional drag and load the extractor harder. Can this cause earlier wear? Possibly. I suspect that's why comblock rifles that predominantly run steel cased ammo have such massive extractors(look at an ak or vz extractor vs ar or g36)

But I doubt it would be that significant. Like I said my bigger concern would be burning up the barrel, much more expensive and time consuming to replace. In the end I say steel case is not substantially cheaper to be worth it. But that's just me.

Good point and agreed; currently there doesn't seem to be any 223/556 steel case which is cheap enough to be worth it.

Being an AR snob will only get you so far...

Colt all the way. They aren't that much without all the mall commando garbage on them. You can get a military configuration minus FA for a little over your budget. If it is good enough for soldiers it should be good enough for most of us. Just my 2 cents.

For around your price range.

Troy Defense Northern Guard.

They are on sale through a vendor here.

One of the most feature packed packages you can get.

I'd give the basic M+P 15 from Smith & Wesson a chance for only about $850+tax (as I've read good things from owners here on CGN), otherwise a new DD (new would be very difficult for around $1,300 unless used BNIB?) so a good used DD for less???

Cheers D
