Gents,

I am coming home soon from Iraq and getting ready for a bowhunting trip. I need to pick up some arrow and broadheads as well as get a back up string/cables since I will be in a rather remote location for my trip.

What is the best archery shop in the Edmonton area? Having had problems in other areas with crap shops with bad advice and try pushing there old stock...I need to find a good place with no crap.....

I would appreciate anyones recommendations. Going to be a bowhunting trip of a lifetime....

Cheers

Jeff

Can't help you with the advice Jeff, but glad to see you coming home safely. Is your son shooting that 'lil Ruger 7-08 yet?

try sherwood park archery lanes in sherwood park and ask for joe. the shop can be accessed off baseline as you come into sherwood park from edmonton. joe is a part owner of the shop and takes pride in his work. have bought 2 bows from them and lots of accessories and have been very pleased with their service. do a google search for their shop.

stay away from the father/daughter (gerry/amanda?) tag team at WSS. I bought my first bow from them and brought it back to them for new cables after I'd used if for a couple of seasons. they didn't have the correct length in stock and ended up making me a set, which were about 2 inches too short. the bow never shot properly after that as the timing/draw length were both buggered up because the cables were too short. when i brought the bow back to them to say that it wasn't shooting accurately, i was told that i needed to practice more, which was why the bow wasn't shooting properly. i ended up taking the bow to the store in sherwood park where they restrung it properly with the correct size cables. that was several years ago and the bow still shoots well.

glad you're back and in one piece, thanks for serving!!

Pipestone Creek Archery, Millet overpass on hwy #2 go 1.5 miles west and 3miles south. Jim Gibson, good friend, knows his ####. 780-387-5006. He has an onsite 3D range and is a hunter himself. Very into customer service.

I've also heard positive comments about pipestone creek. if i recall, they provided devon f/g club members access to their archery range after the devon club folded and closed their ranges.

Welcome back.:welcome:
X3 for Archery Lanes in Sherwood Park. Both Joe & Dan are very knowledgeable, offer any required follow up services as well as a good variety of associated products and supplies.

I've dealt with Trophy Book, in Spruce Grove, and been pretty happy with their stuff.

The old guy at Wholesale is pretty easy to deal with, but the female that works (worked?) behind the archery counter was all the reason I needed to head straight for the front door. Ugh! WSS's prices were never the best, and they seemed to be out of anything I went there for specifically.... Never heard that before, either, eh?
Last I was in there, they were still selling Champion Bows, complete with "Lifetime Warantee" tags.... Champion has been bankrupt for a couple years....

The guys in Sherwood park were pretty decent the odd time I was out that way. Just wasn't on my route, so didn't get to do much there...

Cheers

Its not in Edmonton but the mail order from National Archery Supply in Winnipeg is absolutley outstanding. I order all my gear from them and they will give you the best price, very knowledgable and they have the best selection around. I saved over $250 ordering my X-Force from them vs. the local dealer.
If you're only looking for broadheads, arrows and strings no real need to go to a walk in shop.

Martin Tinney from Swamp Donkey Outdoors is in the Muir Lake area, north of Stony Plain, and is a great guy to deal with. Wouldn't advise Trophy Book, too many bad experiences/stories out of that place. Supposed to a archery shop opening in Villeneuve some time soon, that's only 10 min. west of St. Albert!

Thanks for all the info and advice. Landed this morning from Baghdad and very glad to be home. I am looking forward to getting some bow time in as I get ready for my trip. Almost getting hit by a rocket in Baghdad on Friday makes being home and this trip even more special...

Going to try the Sherwood Park shop and see how it goes. Going to have a couple of weeks to get ready...

Cheers

Jeff

I had an excellent and informative meeting with Joe at Sherwood Park. He is very knowledgeable and was more interesting in making sure I was kitting out properly and prepared than selling me anything. Very impressed and I am very happy with the service. I look forward to stopping by every couple of days to shoot....
