Ok guys, the 9.3x62 is starting to look better and better. Which rifle is the best one for the price? So far on the low end I've checked out a HVA 640 with the FN 98 "H" action, and on the higher end a SIG SHR 970. Any recomendations on ones priced in between these two?

I almost bought a used Tikka 9.3x62 yesterday, but opted out in favor of a 9.3x74, stricktly because of ammo available from Hornaday. Sure like that Tikka though, have not seen a CZ yet but would love feedback if thats the way you end up going.

Woodbeef,
All depends for what you are looking; a used rifle, a collectible, a new in the box workhorse or a fancy rifle.
If one can wait, there is always the Sako, wich falls on the high end. The M85 is now a constrolled feed action, with all the advantages of the Sako features. The bad point is the 1 year wait to get it, but if it's not your only rifle, it does not really matter.
There is always the Zoli 1900, in push feed action, but still you're at the higher end of the pricing you are referring to.

The Tikka is also a very interesting (for the price and I'd say overall quality) push-feed. They usually are more than accurate rifles, and they even make it in the Heavy Barreled Varmint version.... Maybe on the "heavy" side for a tracking rifle, but still good for hunting from a stand (my own T3 HB Varmint in 6.5X55 is really the most accurate commercial rifle I ever owned).

The Cz sure have a lot of more than interesting features, I prefer the Lux version over the American, 'cos of the piggy back stock for fast sighting with open sights and scope. That is my own personal choice in "new-in-the-box" category for tracking moose and close shots, because of the controlled feed feature (I prefer it over the push feed when hunting in the bush of heavy brush). They are available, I've been lurkin' for then since a while...

Remember that; when looking for an "exotic" rifle/caliber, the wait is nothing compared to the feeling of having it, and most of the time, wait is the rule.

Best value ---- the HVA are the cheapest way to go and are great usuable rifles - especially if they have good mounts already.

CZ or an old BRNO -- my favorite by far, harder to find and getting up in price.

Tikka -- for a new rifle, possibly the best value. If you get it with the plastic stock / and or short bbl in the Battue - it will push you a bit in recoil.

The Sig -- possibly the best trigger out of a box I have ever used, the smoothest action and a very fast lock time, low angle bolt opening, 3 position safety. It has a removeable Mag feed -- I can take that or leave that part , have not decided on that feature. Unbelievably accurate tho. Bbl is about 22 inch - a nice compromise. Comes up well and points wonderfully in a rush situation.

Not crf - but again haven't missed that feature. Bed the stock tho to make sure of the wood not splitting (cautious)

The Sig is my go to rifle in the 9.3 x 62.

If I bought the HVA I would likely be changing the trigger in any event - but still would be great (the best) value.
