Best bang for your buck 12g shot gun

The Baikal is very course in fit and finish. Many complain that it becomes a single shot with certain loads. Plus you always have to adjust the gas system for light or heavy loads with a wrench tool and guess if it's enough or you should twist it a bit more.

You get what you pay for exactly with this one.

A much better options would be a Stoeger M2000 or Weatherby SA-08. Both Turkish guns, much better quality compared with the Russian counterpart in question.

Stoeger is Benelli short recoil action. Weatherby is an old Beretta gas design with two interchangeable pistons -- one for light and the other for heavy loads. As easy as that. If you go to the range, slip the light piston on. If you plan on going hunting, put the heavy piston on. Easy-peasy!

For trap shooting pump or semi doesn't really matters but for hunting I think a semi would have an edge for quick follow up shot especially you have mentioned hunting waterfowls and for that reason I will pick either the Stoeger M3500 ( little over your budget around $600ish but well worth the investment ) but if you are recoil sensitive then the gas operate Baikal MP153 aka Remmy SPR453 can't be beat as they should all 2 3/4 to 3 1/2 hunting load without issue.

I know many likes the Mossy 930 / 935 but don't have first hand experience on it.

I know many have seen this but I can't resist to post it again:p

You are not the only one complaining. It is a common theme with Baikal semi shotguns.

Their pistols on the other hand is a totally different story. As good as SKS in terms of reliability :)

I had a MP 153 and it didn't perform anything like that. It was basically a single shot POS. Got it used so maybe it was a dud.

Save your money to buy a nice sx3 or buy a used benelli nova or bps for 500. I have a mossberg 930 and paid 600 taxes in and once I held a sx3 there was no comparison. The benelli and bps pumps are the best ones in the market for reliability. Buy once and buy quality. If you buy a cheap go with the mossberg because if you need warranty work they have stores that do warranty work in ontario. Not so sure about baikal or weatherby.

Mossberg 930, will shoot light target loads and heavy goose loads. Light and reliable. Right price, tooI have one here that one of my junior shooters has put thousands of target loads through on sporting clays. Also you can get them fixed if something goes wrong.
My 2c anyway.

Those 930's seem to be hit or miss when it comes to cycling light loads. A lot of the reviews I found said they didn't like light loads other said it handled them just fine. Well priced, but it's the only reason I didnt end up with one.

SX3 or Maxus. Very fast action, excellent pointability!
