Hi All,

I have a colt canada IUR on reserve and now need to figure out what the heck i'm going to do with it! I'm looking for some advice on the following :

1. BCG - as I understand it, cc are not available? I have seen Daniel Defence for around $240 CDN and LMT FA for similar prices. Any other good ones to check out? Will i need a headspace measurement to safely run any of these other brands?
2. Lower - Go with a complete or build myself? If building, what is a good parts kit to pick up? I was looking at Rock River but could not find any in stock. What would be a good compatible milspec lower to run?

Thanks for the help guys!

When asked this very question, Colt Canada said this...

All CC/Diemaco bolts and barrels are interchangeable. Colt's bolts should be interchangeable as well. I can't speak for any other manufacturers tolerances or quality. Some are better than others. Headspace is important and improper headspace could cause anything from hard to close to breech explosion. If I was putting any bolt from one manufacturer in any gun from any other manufacturer I would want to check.

The BCG from any of the SA models will fit in these uppers or any other Colt Canada upper.

Military bolts should not have to be "fitted". They are either in spec or not.

In the case of O'Dell, they have a trained armourer and and engineer on staff and they would check them all.

Wolverine had the Daniel Defense lower 1-2 weeks ago but I can't find it right now maybe you can give them a call. If you want a big "name" quality part, you can build a complete DD lower with DD parts for around 500$.
If you want low budget build, I had great success with Aero Precision lower and parts from SGW.

For the BCG I have use both, the DD have the logo engraved on the side so if you want a more original look go with the LMT. Both are excellent quality BCG.

Oh I completely ignored your second question. Any lower will do. I'd basically do what the folks do in the States, just grab a lower with a rollmark you like and do your mods to it. I highly suggest getting something like a Knights lower and putting in a Geissele trigger in.

When you run top of the top BCG's, you can be rest assured your headspacing should be OK. Don't take my word for gospel, only suggesting you get what you paid for and for the most part, the expensive things seldom fail expectations.

And yes, DD and LMT are superb choices too. It's a shame we can't get FN BCG's seeing that FN and Colt are the 2 main suppliers of US full auto M4/16's.

Does Knight, LMT, DD or the like sell stripped or complete lowers in Canada? Or were you suggesting to source off the EE?

Does anyone know if Colt Canada plans to sell lower either stripped or complete to the commercial market?

Thanks for all the replies guys! Off to shop now! I'm leaning towards a stripped lower, DD parts kit, milspec buffer and tube, and a nice CTR stock. Probably go with the DD or LMT BCG as the CC in the EE is friggen expensive! I could get 200 rounds of ammo for the price diff!

All three of those are offered as conplete Lowers by sponsors here. The pricing was last i checked and maynot be current given our dollar.

Knights - OSTS - $1150
DD - Wolverine - $599
LMT - Questar - $799-$1000 depending on trigger assenbly involved

I would defininatly take a look at the Cryptic Coatings BCG, Mystic Black model. That's what I would put in my IUR. Since the company is also called CC, not only it will look good, it will sound good too:cool:

How about a Colt Canada SA20 rifle (Wolverine should still be able to find you one) then you would have the CDN Colt BCG and a 20" classic CDN Colt rifle and a wicked 16" IUR rifle too, all with a quick change. Best of both worlds just open up your wallet and let your dreams come true, definitely money well spent IMHO.

Cheers D

Just some advice on the BCGs

I have both the Daniel Defense and LMT bolt carrier groups. The only difference between the 2 is the Daniel Defense BCG has a much smoother, high quality parkerizing. You can almost wipe the oil and carbon off of the bolt carrier of the DD, while the LMT has a rougher texture that makes it more difficult.

I would be using the DD in my rifle right now but i don't want the DD logo visible through the ejection port. It will be used in an upcoming build.
