Hey Guys;

A buddy of mine is getting posted to Ontario, in an area that is shotgun, BP and bow only... He wants me to ask you guys what black powder rifle is...

(1) most accurate
(2) with which bullet
(3) easiest to clean

Cheers and Thanks
Jay

for off the shelf solutions, tell him to buy a Lyman Great Plains .54 cal. with 1:60" rifling. In terms off accuracy, try starting with 80 or 90 grains of FFg pushing a .535" roundball patched with .015" lubed pillow ticking and work up from there.

I really like T/C's Hawken with a 410gr Buffalo Bullet conical. It is a handy little rifle and I could put 3 shots into 2.5" at 100 yards with the factory open sights. And it kills deer dead! I like FFg, but Pyrodex powder is much cleaner.

You did'nt specify if your friend wanted an in-line or sidelock type bp gun,
So here you get into a whole batch of bullets/sabots,powders or pellets.
I've only been shoosting bp for 15 months now but I can say that I've found the cleanest powder to be Triple 7 in the loose powder form.
For accuracy,in my Pedersolli it likes 90grs Pyrodex RS and a 245gr "Ballet" averaging 3" @75yds
My T/C Encore is averaging 2.5" at 100yds with a 240gr XTP and 100grs 777.
I just recieved some 240gr Extreme Elites(Thank-you 'hakx') that I'll try in the near future with my Encore.

Hey Guys, I believe he wants the "most" modern and easiest to maintain... I guess that is an inline???

Cheers

Sadly, yes. But if he was a real enthusiast, he'd buy a Hawken or long rifle ;)

The Savage 110ML shoosting weighed charges of smokeless powder, and a sabot.

It don't get much more modern than that.

PS - yes, I did write "shoosting"

Savage 10ml if your local regs permit it!shooting it is addopting it!

I can push a barnes original .458-300gr HP orange sabot 59.5gr of vitavori120 vL-2450 that rival a .458 win mag.:)

Hey Levi. The rifles you are referring to are the Austin & Hallek make. A very good shooter I hear, but I still love my Omega. Easy to clean, accurate, and a great feel. She loves to eat the Hornady SST 250's. 1"and less 3 shot groups at 100 yards with 110 grains Pyrodex Select.

I had an Omega and could not get that Muzzleloader to shoot less then 3" groups, not bad but not what I expected.
One muzzleloader that was actually quite decent that I shot was the Traditions Pursuit Lt. Nice hinge action and shot groups averaging 2" and less with 2 777 pellets and a 45 XTP or SST.
I would really like to try a smokeless Savage as I hear they are a real wicked muzzleloader with 200 yard accuracy and no cleaning like the blackpowder rifles.
If you have some time take a read on www.chuckhawks.com webpage and read through his modern muzzleloading page it quite a good read.

Cheers!!
