Looking at getting a decent o/u for $800 or less, any recommendations? Will primarily be used for skeet and trap, would like one with screw in chokes, I am seriously looking at the cz mallard

Buy a used, beat up Citori... you will be way further ahead than the cheap, crap guns made for under $1000 new.

My cousin just bought a new Mossberg Silver Sporting Reserve 2, for 829$, regular 959$. It's a trap version with a raised rib and muzzle control vents. I shot a few with it, and I'll admit it's not the same as my Citori's, but for 800$ it was damn good.

For the money the CZ is a decently well made O/U, 1 member of my club shoots one, fairly high volume, hasn't had any issues with it over the past few years I've known him. I have an Akkar Churchill 206 with about 3500 rounds through it at the moment that has impressed me, no perceivable wear to speak of. A used Beretta or Browning is a safer bet for the money, however a new CZ will come with warranty, they do stand behind their product.

what? no votes for Baikal yet. My time to chime in i guess. They can be had for a little over 500$ and will last dam well near forever. My cousin shoots his dad's old O/U thats about 30 years old or so, has thousands and thousands of rounds through without issue
I myself have a 20 gauge SxS with screw in chokes, I had sold my Citori a little more then a year ago, just didn't like it. Picked this up a few weeks ago and just crush targets with it.
If they fit you, you will be very happy with it, but if fit is off by even just a hair, they will beat the piss right out of you. They all come with chokes these days so shoot whatever tickles your fancy.

With the current embargo on Russian goods, the availability of Baikals is suffering - particularly the single trigger O/U, which is preferred for the shooting sports. Even more rare are the O/U "Sporting" models.

Very true.
So, buy as many Baikals as you can before they are all gone. or before the NDP F**K us up the A**

The Stevens 555 introduced last year has had some reviewers looking down their nose - the shotgun world is almost as bad as the short range BR world for snobbiness - but appears to be the value buy new. The used advice you have already received is spot on. So up to you really - new or used.
