Best bullet weight for 1in9 twist 11-5" AR barrel

Maybe I just have a difficult barrel, but through a 20 inch 1:9 barrel, the only bullets I've been able to get to group are 52gr. Two hundred yard groups with 69 and 75gr bullets are only so-so. With 52gr SMK's it shoots little knots.

every time i read a post on bullet weight vs rifle twist it makes me puzzle over why the CF uses a 1-7" twist and fires a 62 grn slug... isnt that a bit tight of a twist???

yes tighter twist needed to stablize the longer heavier bullets

also remember tracer rounds are a lot longer then a normal round, so if you what to shoot them too you need a tighter twist

Ahahahahahahahahaha.

You are looking at playing the accuracy game with an 11.5 bbl. A barrel that won't even get the round above 2500 fps from a gun that has a 2 moa benchmark.

Seriously, hahahahahahahaha.

It more depends on the chamber and throat than the twist, that said 1:9's don't really work with long bullets.

If you are looking for an accurate paper loading the 69gr SMK stuff is good -- your best of handloading as most of the .223 ammo was designed around a bolt gun and is not crimped well for use in a semi-auto.

1:7 is the best twist for most bullets in 5.56mm, 1:8 is also a good twist.
