best bullet weight for a 1 in 14 twist 22 250 ?

"...outta luck at shooting anything heavier?..." Yep. Heavier bullets won't stabilize properly. Mind you, there's more to tight groups than just the bullet.

can any one help me im having trouble finding a bullet that will shoot tight groups in my howa 1500 in 22 250 love a little input. thanks

For the best accuracy use a match grade bullet in the 50 to 55 grain weight. Just about any 22-250 shot the old Hornady 53 grain match bullets extremely well.

14 twist barrels are great with bullet weights up to 55 grains. Above that, it is rare for a 14 twist to do well with them. I have had very good success in my 14 twist Swift using 55 Ballistic Tips and V-Maxes. Powders that work well in the 22-250 are: IMR4895, IMR4064, IMR4320, IMR4007, H4895, H380, Varget, Alliant RL15, AA2460, AA2520, Vihtavuori N135, N140 & N540. Regards, Eagleye

I have a Sako sporter in 22-250 and as much as I tried to feed it 55gr bullets, it didn't care for them nearly as much as any 50 gr bullet. FS

With 55gr Blitzkings, I get around .7" groups. The guy I bought it from could hold under .5" with same rifle, same bullets (yes, I watched him, didn't just believe a story). That's in my 14 inch twist Savage. It wouldn't cost a lot to try 60gr bullets, but don't be surprised if they don't stabilize, the value of your time, will tell if that's worth trying.

ETA, see below, 1-12" twist, oops

I had a 220Swift (little faster than yours) 1-14 and it loved 40 gr Moly Hornadys. Shot 1/4 moa all day long. It was a Ruger M77 with a douglas barrell. They averaged 4350 fps on the chrony. Had a couple of hotter loads clock just over 4400 fps.

M.

I was the 4th owner with lots of rounds down the barrell, still 1/4 min. all day.
