Well its no secret that the 6BR is king at 3-600...
So which calibre would be the top choice for the 8-1000???
Now I am not just looking for accuracy I am looking for accuracy/barrel life combo!!! Basically the 8-1000 yard version of the 6BR! I know the BR is capable but let's look at others...and I know the 6.5-284 has been winning but eats barrels relatively fast so....what else...284win, 260ai, 6.5X47?????

Actually yesterday was a nice calm morning for the drillers 600yd group/score match...today however they probably had their work cut out for themselves in the ulta longs...wind was howling!!!!

What kind of groups you guys get at 600 metres, this is what i get with my 308, 1.75 inch at 600 metres, it add up to about .1 MOA...would i be in or out... JP.

OK, so let's say I was to narrow things down to 260ai, 6.5X47L and 284win.....so accuracy/barrel life combo....which wins????

The .284win. You are better off with a 7mm bullet for long range, and the .260AI(which I shoot and is awesome!) eats barrels. I don't know much about the 6.5x47 other than its been the flavour of the week lately.

I recently had a 6.5 Mystic (a 260AI) made, Courtesy of Mystic precision. With the shilen 30" select match barrel its a sub-0.25moa combo. 6.5 mm 140 berger VLD @ 2940fps. It's not hard to get to work in my opinion.

If I get 1200 rounds I will be very pleased.

What you guys getting @ 600 metres with yours rifle... JP.

It isn't the accuracy that is the problem with .308, it is the ballistics. Look at the wind drift for 6.5mm and 7mm bullets compared to the .308 choices. .308 is an excellent cartridge capable of superb accuracy, but it is simply not competitive with the 6.5mm and 7mm options out there at long range.

But what kind of groups in average good shooter get in F-class... JP.

If you can get 10 or 15 shots ( depending on the match ) into 1 MOA at ranges from 300 meters to 1000 yards you will win 100 out of 100 times unless someone else does it and gets more V bulls then you. On average though from what ive seen people get most shots into the 1 MOA and few in the .5 MOA ( V bull )

If you have a great shooter in FTR using a 308 vs a great shooter in F open the F open guy will win every time.

you're not shooting f class....

Nope i do no competion whatsoever, i shoot by myself on our private range from 300 to 800 metres, when they are talking shooting MOA let say at 600 metres, that mean shooting in 6.6 inchs to keep MOA or shoot in one inch @ 600 metres... JP.
