best calibre for gopher hunting with a Thureon or JR Carbine

Considering how violently the 10mm 135grn bullets tear apart at 1700fps out of a pistol they should be like a hand grenade at 2100fps+ in that long rifle barrel. Ill be testing them this spring.

What bullets will you be using? Will the jackets be able to handle that velocity and RPM?

Originally, the 10mm was first on the list. Then Arms east sold out of them.
good points on the .45. unfortunately, Arms East only has the .45 in stock.
I'm thinking 9mm would be a better choice than that. May have hold out for a 9mm and use 115's.

Anyone know where to find a 9mm TDC?

They had one as of yesterday morning. I'd reserved one for myself and then went with a .45ACP.

I have several thousand Nosler 135s. They broke 2100fps consistently with the 20 rounds I fired before having my KB with another load. They held together just fine in flight and were quite accurate at the 100m I was shooting but considering the damage they do at 1700ish fps they will annihilate themselves on contact with pretty much anything at the much higher velocity... Gopher mist.

If you invite me to come help splatter some this spring I'll bring my sub-2000 and my Vector and we can compare the 9 to the 45 and see which one is better. I handload for both and have some nice hollowpoints that may increase the splatter factor. Not sure the gopher would have enough mass to actually cause expansion of the bullet but I would guess the 45 would make more of a mess since it's making a bigger hole, it's hard to say without actually testing.
17HMR is all you really need but if you are buying a pistol caliber carbine I would go with the 45 so you can hunt deer with it if you can get close enough. You could hunt with the 9 but I would want to be less that 50yds if I was going to us my sub2000. 45 is cheap and easy to hanload as well.
I couldn't decide either so I bought both.

I could also bring the 6.5-284 or 338 Lapua for the longer shots.
My buddy moved so I no longer have access to a good gopher patch :(
If you can get your place certified as a range I'll bring the S&W 460V and I'm sure that 45 wouldn't leave much behind other than a pink grease stain and a crater where a gopher once stood. hehehe.

Considering a lot of wild boars south of the border are successfully hunted/shot with heavy pistol calibers they should do just fine on gophers. It really all depends on the shooter and what the shooter is using. Impact does cause quite a commotion.
fixed it

heavy calibre: 357 with heavy bullets & upwards in power as the bare minimum for wild boar. I agree with Suputin.

Having tons of marmott on our farm land, i intend to try on a few dozens with UMC 180 gr 10mm @ 1500 fps out of the TD combined with my Hilux CMR 1X4, this should be easy out to a 100 metres, should be a lot of fun, i intend to make a little vid to put on my Youtube site, story to follow... JP.

If you reload 45 can be made to equal 10mm but if you buy commercial, no way you can come close to the power of the 10mm... EX: the UMC 180 gr 10mm out of the long tube ( 19 inch ) is running 1500 + fps that is almost on par with a 357mag out of my Trapper carbine 16 inch ( less than 50 pounds of energy difference betwen the 2 in favor of the 357 ) the 10mm is a top round, this rifle with a hunting bullet would be a very lethal deer rifle for 100 metres or less... JP.
