I carry legally when stateside and cross the border regularly with my handgun(s).

As of late I have been taking two with me; the Glock 30 in .45 and the Glock 26 in 9mm., along with the prerequisite 10 round magazines, extended barrels and leather. If I can carry the .45 I do so (belt and suspenders) otherwise I finesse the G26 9mm into my pants (still belt and suspenders so I can carry IWB without having my pants fall down and wearing them loose.

So here's my question.... hard to ask stateside guys as they are all used to carrying either full size 1911's or teeny weeny Karr's and the like that fit into a shirtpocket. sic.

I want to keep Canada legal as I move across the border all the time. That means 105mm barrel and 10 round magazines. If I wanted to get fancy I could always store a larger capacity magazine and a standard shorter barrel stateside and do a swap while stateside, swapping back when returning to Canada but that's a pain.

So, my question.... for those with experience carrying stateside... what, in your opinion, is the BEST concealed carry pistol that fits the bill of being Canada legal?

I have been playing with the Sig P239, the Walther P99, HK P7M8, and a few others. I really like, for instance, the Para LTC's at 4.25" barrel size with all their safety features. And a few others.

What, in your humble opinion, is THE BESTEST EVER concealed carry pistol for all conditions stateside? And what do you do to carry same? I don't want to wear a blazer all the time in the heat nor a windbreaker that cries out "GUN!".

So, what do you carry? And how do you carry it?

As much I would like to see a Glock with at least a grip safety, I keep coming back to my G30 and G26 with "Canadian" barrel and magazine.

I see ads for the new XD45 compact, which just happens to have a short barrel and frame (4.25" I think) and it is getting rave reviews.

The more I play the more confused I get. I have had two or three scarey experiences stateside that have induced me in no uncertain terms to carry concealed when legal to do so. In fact, I have had a couple of VERY scarey incidents in Canada without the ability to carry concealed and am just lucky to still be around.

This poll is so subjective as to be useless. But, in my opinion, with all-things-considered, for most people, most of the time, in most conditions,

the single best concealed carry pistol is the G19.

I carried legally in the US for many years. Liked the Seecamp .32. I know many consider them useless, but they're effective within their limits and easy to have with you all the time. Before the Seecamp I used a PPK .32. I miss them both.

I don't carry in the US but if I had to I'd take by Glock29, smallest and lightest pistol I have. I don't think you really need a new gun with the 2 small autos you have. I'd just get a standard barrel for your G26 and a safety deposit box somewhere close to the border. G30 is fine the way it is.

umm

I carry a glock 25 with corbon 90 grs +p+ in a IWB comp_tac model" slide," and a little 2" chief model in my ankle, I do not carry in usa, I carry in south america venezuela, the corbon are expensive but well worth, center mass:)

I handled a Colt Lightweight Commander in Stainless the other day, wow - light, great sights, good tactile response and very, very good trigger. Definitely worth a look, IMHO. Carry would be in a Raven Concealment rig, so I'd have the option of various carry modes (in/out, pancake etc.)

FWIW, the 1911 is in my opinion is the best fighting pistol ever designed and is the pistol I am most confident with, having shot and carried it more than most others aside from revolvers. While I'm 12.6, I would still opt for the full size 1911 over a Commander or a Star PD as I just find it easier to shoot well with full powered loads. Although the full sized 1911 does not lend its self to easy concealment for smaller people, I'm long enough to carry it concealed. Under normal conditions I would opt for a strong side inside the waist band holster like the Galco Royal Guard. Choice of carry though is dependent upon your activities and dress during a typical day. If you are someone who spends much of the day behind the wheel, an inside the waistband holster could become uncomfortable real fast. If you are hanging out on the beach, a mini-pistol like my S&W 469, or better yet a stainless J frame revolver in an Underwrap would be more appropriate. If I were you, given your preference for modern pistol designs, I would keep some high capacity magazines in a safety deposit box in the US, or perhaps even keep your prohibited in Canada/US carry gun there where you exchange it for your full sized pistol upon your arrival.
