It seems most Americans like joel etchen and coles for high end sporting shotguns. Who are the canadian equivalent dealers here in canada for the higher end sporting, hunting, competition guns? Or should we just import from the us?

I'll attempt to answer your question with some realism.

You have to understand that the very nature of your question makes it extremely difficult to get an accurate answer.

How many people on here have bought from a few times from the best shops in the Maritimes, Ontario, and the West? It is extremely unlikely that you're going to get a scientific answer, as opposed to people saying "I like this one store" or "This store is junk".

What you're actually asking for is a Consumer Reports-like review, that comes up with a "best of" store.

That said, it is not necessarily impossible, it would just take a very well-meaning millionaire to dedicate their time to place multiple orders from all of the main shops, and objectively report his findings.

I think that guy's user name is caramel. :D

Just looking for the canadian equivalent of coles, JEG, jaquis etc that has a good selection of berettas, browning, caesar guerino etc

L and L Specialties out of Langdon, AB imports a number of high end brands and deals all sorts of high end firearms. I bought my Zoli from him, he also deals with Kohler and has a large stock of other stuff from consignment.

He also happens to be one of the few NSCA Level 2 instructors outside the US

It is a bit of a challenge within Canada. There are a lot of good regional businesses out there. However, I know of a LOT of people who are heading South and simply importing (the fully legal way) exactly what they want.

Target shotguns are really a specialty product. I don't know of any dealers within Canada who stock a significant supply of new and resale target guns. A lot of these places will have a few models, generally new and perhaps a few used/consignment available, and will be more than happy to order you something. As a consumer, it is a lot nicer to be able to put your eyes and hands upon a gun when deciding to make a purchase. If you are going to drop that kind of money on a gun, you want to be able to get exactly what you want, rather than having to settle for something close.

Prophet River in Lloydminister and Silver Willow Sporting Clays in Carstairs both carry a good selection.

Prophet River will help you import if you can't find what you like in Canada, and they are a site sponsor.

Both places have great staff and are good to deal with.

The Canadian market poses a real challenge to specialized dealers: Canadian shooters typically don't buy mid-range guns. If you look around a range you will see lots of $2500 Brownings, and a fair number of $10,000+ Kohlers, Kreighofs, and Perazzis; you just don't see that many guns in the range between: the Zoli's, Blasers, Caesar Guerini, or even high end Berettas.

It may be a Chicken vs Egg issue (if they import it people will buy), but lets face it, most specialty gun places aren't huge shops, and don't make huge margins. So having to front the funds to import 125 Zoli's at $4500/ea is a lot of capital to tie up in inventory.

We stock Blaser, Beretta, Benelli, Chapuis and Merkel. We can also source Purdy and Hollow & Naughton. Our gunsmith provides fitting services as well.

Agree with Brad. Having traveled coast to coast in Canada and visited many, many shops, I don't believe there to be anything to compare to the variety & selection
at places like Jaquas, Joel Etchen, Guns Unlimited, Southwest Shooters Supply, etc. Virtually all of the "high-end" target guns are available here through
many outlets, but getting to handle and examine a variety of them... not so easy. Coles does not have a big inventory of target guns, (at least at their original store
in Maine, but a very nice shop with knowledgeable, helpful staff none the less.

Ross Falkner at The Gun Dealer in New Brunswick treated me like gold when I bought my Browning 725. Very reasonable cost shipped to my door in two days.
You have to talk to him directly especially when you are wanting to buy. If you start tire kicking with him, don't waste your time. Just tell him that your buying and he will step up to the plate and deal. He loves to deal !

I too have to give mucho credit to the Gun Dealer; great selection of...everything, and great guys. Hell, they were nice enough to not only let me borrow a gun at the range, but actually brought me a gun to go shoot a round of Sporting Clays with them last summer.
