This is the last piece of our reloading setup that I have yet to pickup.

Can you guys tell me what you prefer? I see Lyman, RCBS, and Lee have some electric units, as well as some hand spun units. Are any of these decent? Durable?

What's popular? The manually spun units or the electric ones?

Thanks!

Cordless drill (which most people have anyways) and $5 for the Lee Case Trimmer Guage and $8 for the cutter. Cuts down to the proper size and no more for little money. If the gauge breaks, so be it... it was only $5 :)

So far the only one I broke was the 8mm Mauser but that gets put through rough useage since I cut down 30-06 on a drill press with it for my Mauser cases.

I like the Lyman (can't remember model, but handcrank, not electric) because it has a universal shell holder, so in my case I don't have to go and buy a whole load of different brand shell holders.

Your post indicates pistol. What caliber? Most of the popular cases shortern rather than lengthen during resizing and it isn't necessary to trim the cases. This is particularly true of .45acp cases but other cases will exhibit this tendency as well. I load thousnads of rounds of 9MM, .40cal and .45acp cases a year and have found ho need to trim any cases. In my view it is a waste of time.

Cannuck44, X2.

I was about to tell them I have never trimmed a common pistol case, and some of them have been shot a great number of times. The neck will crack, but they won't need trimming.

This is exclusively a pistol setup. Namely 9mm, 40S&W, and .38spl/.357mag.

Looks like trimming won't be necessary then!! I actually did notice when measuring some of the .40S&W brass that most were a tad shorter than my Dad's old Lyman manual indicated as standard.

Thanks a lot guys!

I have yet to find a .45acp case measursing.898 and that includes new Winchester brass. Not surprised your .40cal was less than listed.

Forster "Power" Case Trimmer
For use with standard drill presses

Here's a really fast way to trim cases while still maintaining accuracy and integrity. Our "Power" Case Trimmer is useable with most standard drill presses. The case length is controlled by the stop on your drill press spindle. The line-up bar helps guarantee simple, accurate alignment of the trimmer and the drill press spindle. Like our "Original" and "Classic" hand case trimmers, our "Power" Case Trimmer features Brown and Sharpe type collets, and both collets and pilots are interchangeable with our "Original" hand trimmer's collets & pilots. The "Power" Case Trimmer is manufactured with a hardened steel cutter shaft with 1/4" shank with four staggered cutting edges for chatterless case trimming. See caliber search.
