Cerakote sells many shades and textures of black--varying from very flat to shiny--and I'm wondering which of these is the best match to a traditional blued finish. If possible, I'd like to match the look of a rust blued finish, which is not super shiny, but I don't want a really severe flat black.

Anyone on here have some experience with the various black Cerakote finishes?

Midnight Blue is what i like

This. - in a satin finish. Just got a friends Mossberg shotgun barrel/receiver done in this. Looks great - if you want to add a bit more sheen, just give it a wipe with an oil impregnated cloth.Mossberg.jpg This is what it looks like, without a wipe with aforementioned cloth.

I have a custom rifle with the high gloss Cerakote bluing, which is close to standard bluing, however does not resemble high luster bluing. Graphite black would be a good choice which is close to a rust blue, I'm currently having this done on a recent rifle I acquired.

When I was trying to match a barreled action to a scope, I emailed them, they "nailed it" great company and they have time for there customers, and knowledge.

I use both Cerakote and Gunkote .To match bluing I blend GUNKOTE gunmetal blue and satin black to match and than it can be buffed to a luster .Gunkote goes on thinner so tends to look less like paint than Cerakote. Both have the same pencil harness when cured so they are full equals in durability. Not to mention moving parts, Gunkote is an actual surface film lubricant so it doesn't give you that sticky gravely feeling .Everything is in the prep when using either product.
I don't even use my bluing setup any more as the new bake on products are far superior.

I agree! If done correctly gunkote can look just like bluing but is five times more durable and wont rust.
